Sylvaneth have an almost contradictory playstyle that lends itself to being quite frustrating to play against indeed. My main army is Sylvaneth, so I know well that when I'm having a good game, it can be annoying for the other player.
Placement and usage for forests, various teleporting abilities, all our healing and magic ability, and the strong range we have tend to be annoying.
Sylvaneth can be highly mobile with their teleporting, but they're also highly defensive due to wanting to stay in the forests and hold objectives from there. We can be anywhere on the map, and rarely be out of position so long as you're inside your happy trees.
I know you're not asking specifically for 'how' to play the army with this thread, but I feel like knowing more about how it operates can help you answer the questions you have.
If you're wholly within a piece of area terrain, you get Cover. A nice +1 to your army save. Those Dryads with their base 5+ Armor save, if they're in a unit of 10 or more, and sitting inside a forest, suddenly become a 3+ armor save. So much more survivable, and not to mention their -1 to hit from being near a forest! Everything in your army except the big monsters like Treelords will gain Cover from being inside forests.
Sylvaneth have four ways to teleport.
1. Deployment phase, put the unit off to the side instead of on the table. End of any movement phase, place them wholly within 6" of a Forest and 9" away from enemy models. Only half of your armies units can do this, but avoid putting wizards in there unless it's Drycha. You won't be able to cast spells the turn you put them on the board, since movement is after hero phase.
2. Forests built-in teleport. Any unit in your army wholly within 3"(or 6" cant recall rn) of a forest may teleport to wholly within 6" of a forest, 9" away from an enemy. This teleport may only be used once per turn.
3. Treelords have their own separate Teleport ability they may use, separate from the second teleport.
4. Tree-Revenants with Waypipes can teleport from anywhere on the board to anywhere on the board, 9" away from enemy models.
And then on top of this, your army is quite solid when it comes to melee and ranged damage output, and strong magic. So, you may frustrate your opponent if you play well and have a good game. The key thing to keep in mind is that there are many ways to handle a sylvaneth army, and for the other player, entering a forest isn't a death sentence for them. You're not *that* likely to die, or even take damage by entering forests when you're not Sylvaneth.
