There's at least one metal band who specifically made music with the GW licence a few years back (I think way back in the 80s). Otherwise the other official music you'd find today would be things like Dawn of War and Total War Warhammer (some fantastic music in both).

Warhammer has a great variety of tunes (the high elf stuff is very Lord of the Rings style) whilst Dawn of War has some great drumming orky beats.

Yeah, Bolt Thrower straight up used the cover of Rogue Trader for one of their albums.

Debauchery is another death metal band with 40k-inspired albums/songs.

I really liked bolt throwers Warhammer based stuff.
Gw even had their own record label for a while, I found this video quite interesting.

I really liked the ‘Deathwing’ video game intro music, it’s hip and western mixed, but fits perfectly!

I humbly submit "One" by Metallica.

In actuality, it's about a horror of war too terrible to contemplate; a man struck down by a landmine awakens to discover the mine has taken his arms, legs, and face. Blind, deaf, quadriplegic, unable to eat, he is locked in never ending darkness and nothingness, until wishing for death is all his conscious mind is capable of doing.

Now that is pretty dang grim-dark. But, since I was aware of 40k when I first heard this one, I didn't think of a real world soldier suffering. Instead, I thought of the then-current fluff for Chaos Dreadnoughts. They were mostly insane, imprisoned in their sarcophagi, kept deactivated in storage and their metal bodies chained down. In the long void-ship trips, they would be lost in their own madness, remembering the horrors of the Crusade and the atrocities they committed in the Heresy, right up until stepping on a fateful mine that would slay them...

And then, when the song changes to be much faster, that's when the dreadnought has been activated, the chains sundered, and the line-breaking machine of war unleashed into the loyalist lines tens of thousands of years later. Still in pain and lost in confusion and madness, the dreadnought pilot now finally feels some freedom, but only in the service of murder, in the name of the dark gods he once sold his soul to, and to whom he is still paying.

Lots of Cannibal Corpse and black metal for night lords. I would guess most world eaters are big Slayer fans. Of course you can never go wrong with Bolt Thrower. I can't remember if back in the day 40k got me into Bolt Thrower or if listening to them got me into 40k.

Not quite grimdark, but getting the cheesy Space Fantasy thing Warhammer's got going on, try out Gloryhammer's last two albums; Space 1992: Rise of the Chaos Wizards or Tales from Beyond the Intergalactic Terror Vortex

Their first album, Tales from the Land of Fife is just cheesy fantasy power metal, but still quite good, only lacking the space theme seen in their last two.

Another one I enjoy as an anthem for the humble Astra Militarum, the Imperial Guard:

Heroes, by Motorhead:

It's basically a commissar yelling at his troops to stand their ground, even in the face a foe they obviously cannot stand before.

Until you fall, you must obey the call.

Honestly, a few go to bands for me. My fav, is actually one I've seen in concert about 4 times now. Sabaton, don't know who they are ? Give them a listen, a great selection of historical battle themed songs. I'd say they mostly call to the guard player in you but it's good to get you fired up for some war on the table top.
