T1 TS turn:
The Chaos forces, using their witch-craft, knew the Imperials were coming and thus, engaged first (in fact I was pleased to let them play first for this scenario).
Most of the Tzeentchian forces moved toward the center of the table except for the cultists, that won't move at all during the game.
He casted +1 to hit and -1 to be hit on one of the dreadnoughts, and then opened fire on my flyer. My stormraven took 5 wound from a missile launcher, but that was all. It was still flying and hitting on 3+ !!! 5 scouts died from two different units.
No unit were completely destroyed.
Space Marines turn:
I made the vv advance toward his rhino, my scout bikers advanced toward his dreadnought by the flank, and didn't move my right flank scouts (I calculated they would still be in range of the objective next turn and I didn't want to loose them). My stormraven moved to be in melta range of his dreadnoughts, his only
AT source. Then my drop pods arrived on my right flank
The flyer destoyed one contemptor and put the other one to 2 wounds. My sternguard veterans and two tactical squads destroyed a rhino, killing a rubric marine. The lieutenant (deployed with the veterans) and one pod killed about 4 cultists.
The vv charged the rhino but didn' t wound it, and then the sternguards assaulted the 9 rubrics, killed 0 and took 8 casualities including 2 in overwatch
My scout bikers shooted at and assaulted the 2 wounds dreadnought in order to finish it, but couldn't destroy it and the deamon prince intervened and killed 2 of one squad, the other one having failed his charge.
VP 2-0
T2 TS turn
The engaged rhino disengaged and 10 rubrics got out. 10 scarabs occult appeared between his dreadnought and his second rubric squad, forming a continuous battle line.
He casted some smites killing my last engaged biker and sternguard veteran and casted again the same psy powers on his dreadnoughts. He failed to damae my stormraven ! He killed 3 vv using his newly deployed rubrics, using the soulreaper cannon on the stormraven and failing again. Using his 9 men rubrics and terminators he killed some tactical marines in the three squads and failed to put wound my stormraven, again (thanks to some good save rolls).
SM turn:
I deep striked my Chapter Master and my last veterans squad, as close as possible from the first vv squad. I didn''t move my stormraven, he went to stationary mode in order to finish the 3 dreadnoughts.
I deepstriked my assault terminators and my terminator librarian right to the place were the biker previously were, just 9" from his warlord. This second turn was supposed to be brutal.
The librarian casted a smite and finally finished the wounded contemptor !
The stormraven put a dreanought to half wound and that's all
I shooted the the terminators with plasma gun from the tactical squad, killing 3 (and killing a plasma gunner by rerollng a 2 that became a 1,
ofc...) and again a few cultists died from a pod and the lieutenant, 1 survived after the moral test.
The terminator and the vv failed to charge the deamon prince and the rubric squad, but the librarian and the
CM successfuly assaulted them.
It is even more sad because the terminators had the reroll power casted on them and just had to do an 8" charge with my successor tactics, and they somehow failed their only opportunity to kill the deamon prince.
The
CM and the two enagaged vv killed 9 rubrics, the last one fleed; My librarian got stomped hard
lol
VP: 2-1 T3 TS turn
Having failed my second turn, he still had a lot of firepower and scored the objective. He moved his terminator toward the objective and his deamon prince away from my terminators and didn't really moved anything else. He desteoyed easily my stormraven, and using one
CP, it shooted his multi melta and destroyed the wounded dreadnought.
Then he killed almost all my remaining tact marines (1 sergeant was still alive), destroyed a pod and almost a second one.He killed the two remaining vv from the first squad.
SM turn
Everything went forward ! The apothecary revived a plasma gunner, and I remembered I had doctrines, so, seeing as it was already T3, I went to assault doctrine (as I would have done if I had remembered earlier). My lieutenant tried to hide in case the 11 remaining cultists tried to kill him (I really wanted this linebreaker point).
A few plasma guns shooted at the rubrics, killing two.
The terminators charged his last dreadnought and my
CM his last rubric squad, and both were annihilated.
With my veterans, terminators, 2 surviving
tac marines, apothecary,
CM and librarian around the objective, I had more models than his 7 terminators, his rhino and his deamon prince.
VP: 4-1 I got twice the objective, first blood and linebreaker.
We decided to stop here as he my friend had to go.
I think he could have destroyed my terminators using two or three smites (he still had all his characters) and his own terminators, but I'm pretty sure my vv and characters would have stomped them (using might of heroes and the special rule of the scenario denying all invulnerable saves 12" away from the objective). He couldn't have killed my lieutenant so I would have earn linebreaker anyway. All in all I think even if going to T5, I would have won.
It was a good game, I am quite happy with the new codex even if I didn't use any doctrine, really
The Master Artisans was really useful, I didn't need to get characters in bubbles to use plasma guns and my Stormraven was helped too by this. However, I don't think Hungry for Battles did anything once in this game. I hope to play against necrons very soon with the same list so we'll see !
