Subject: How is the new short version of the Warhammer 40k Rulebook?

I tried looking online but could not find any post release reviews. How is the new short version rulebook looking? Anyone here at Dakka got their hands on it? Does it have updated rules with the FAQs and the beta rules that have been finalized? Does it included anything extra that the core main book does not? I am rather curious. Is it a or a ?

AFAIK, there are no updated rules or FAQs or anything. It's the core rulebook from 2 years ago but without the fluff section I think. But I don't own the book so I can't say with 100% certainty. GW never touted it as having updated rules either, so...

That's unfortunately the rumour (haven't seen it properly verified). It is indeed a re-print of the rulebook which includes no proper or current revisions...so essentially it's an out-of-date rulebook for a game which is changing every 4-5 months.

Yeah it's a brand new book with a large chunk of invalid/redundant rules not sure the exact percentage but it's a terrible anti consumer product bordering on being a con.
|
Your last point is especially laughable and comical, because not only the 7th ed Valkyrie shown dumber things (like being able to throw the troopers without parachutes out of its hatches, no harm done) - Irbis |

bullet dodged for me then. I had considered this book since I had dropped my BRB on pavement and it is a little beat up. No way in hell am I getting it now.

All the confirmation you need for that is how GW avoids answering that like plague. If it had they would be using that as marketing tool and bombard us with "updated and improved!" statements. Not avoid answering one way or another like touching the subject would be lethal.

I was hoping like most of you it would have the rules rewritten/updated and include all the missions/content from the Chapter Approveds. I would have shelled out some cash for a nice condensed version of all that, even if it wasn’t new it would have been nice to have it all collected.

It's literally just the rulebook, but small.

Guardsmen, hear me! Cadia may lie in ruin, but her proud people do not! For each brother and sister who gave their lives to Him as martyrs, we will reap a vengeance fiftyfold! Cadia may be no more, but will never be forgotten; our foes shall tremble in fear at the name, for their doom shall come from the barrels of Cadian guns, fired by Cadian hands! Forward, for vengeance and retribution, in His name and the names of our fallen comrades! |

Especially when you consider side by side with the AoS mini rulesbook...

This stings, the ONLY reason they made this 40k rulebook was because AoS made their own mini one. Only, AoS actually updated with their FAQs and revisions.

Yep - definitely avoid this one.
I wouldn't even recommend this to someone new to the hobby and doesn't have any books at all. For a mere $14 (AUD) extra you get the full sized BRB with hundreds of pages of lore.
Great concept - terrible execution and pricing. This should be priced at half of what they are asking.

"Courage and Honour. I hear you murmur these words in the mist, in their wake I hear your hearts beat harder with false conviction seeking to convince yourselves that a brave death has meaning.
There is no courage to be found here my nephews, no honour to be had. Your souls will join the trillion others in the mist shrieking uselessly to eternity, weeping for the empire you could not save.
To the unfaithful, I bring holy plagues ripe with enlightenment. To the devout, I bring the blessing of immortality through the kiss of sacred rot.
And to you, new-born sons of Gulliman, to you flesh crafted puppets of a failing Imperium I bring the holiest gift of all.... Silence."

Sad to hear about the 40k Rulebook. I am currently very happy with the AoS rulebook(although I think the Hidden Objectives should have been in it) and was hoping the 40k one would be equally as nice.
To be fair the problem is also the split between normal missions and ITC missions in the community. In AoS the playerbase tends to stick to the AoS missions meaning that the AoS minibook is very handy to keep almost everything in one place.

I think this has me at a new low for how cynical I can be with GW. To release a pure rule book that is useless for playing the game in it's current form has to be the up there with the most greedy/money grab thing GW has done since I started this hobby.

No, it really shouldn't be at half the price. Without collecting all the errata and bringing the rules up to date it literally shouldn't even exist.

Yup agreed, having everything updated and in one place, I would have spent a few quid on.
If its just the original v1.0 rules and thats it - fook dat.

I think this is the first thread I've seen on Dakka where everyone is in complete agreement on something. This thread should be stickied, preserved on a ceramite plaque, and sent straight through the window of Rountree's office in Nottingham! OK, maybe not that last part, but we should definitely let them Games-Workshop know that this absolutely garbage behaviour on their part.
