I'm thinking of three HQs on bikes for my semi-comp White Scars army... using a single Relic and an extra Warlord Trait with a stratagem.

Captain on Bike with Thunder Hammer and WT: Hunter's Instincts for +1 to Hit and +1 to Wound vs. Monsters and Vehicles (to offset the TH penalty and improve wound rolls against high T targets). He rolls out with a squad of melta bikers to help them reroll 1s, the charges big stuff to finish the job.

Captain on Bike with Scimitar of the Great Khan relic (S+1, AP-3, 2D, 4D on natural 6 to wound) and WT: Chogorian Storm for +1d3 Attacks on the charge. He's the actual Warlord and rolls with a squad of bikes sporting chainswords and TH on the sarge to seek out melee matchups, maybe lying low until Turn 3 for the sake of Doctrine buffs.

Khan on Bike with Khan's Spear (AP-3, D1d3, x2 S on the charge), stock with no WT. He rides with a second melta squad, but joins bigger fights or acts as a flex option.

Any thoughts or insights are appreciated... I'm new to Marines this edition and White Scars in general, and this (plus a bunch of Scouts) is a 1000 point starter force.

Personally ive going a different build but

Chogarian storm, imperiums sword and mastercrafted thunder hammer seem a strong combination for 7-9A S10 AP3 D4

Hunter instinct seems a nice pairing with teeth of terra but i would swap it for champion of humanity in some match ups
8A S+1 AP2 D2 with +1 to hit and wound VS Vehicles monstrous

My third would be plume of the planeswalkers it may not up your damage but if gets your dudes into combat its worth it (but snares is viable)

I’m looking at a full blenderiser option with jump pack/teeth of terra/storm shield/chogorian storm for maximum no of attacks. Throw him at the neaerest horde and let rip, accompanied by a 10 man vanguard vet squad with double chainswords. If I’m facing a lot of multi wound models then I can hold them off in reserve to try and get the scars trait to activate on turn 3.

The other khan is similar to yours with bike/shield and master crafted thunder hammer, probably with the biker only re roll charges warlord trait. Snares is also useful and I guess depending on the opponent that could be very nice.

Masochist: Hit me!
Sadist: No.

This gives me a lot to think about... thanks! Sounds like some lean towards number of attacks with Teeth of Terra, especially with the assault doctrine damage buffs. I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one considering a turn 3 charge... it seems recklessly late to engage, but the buffs are just so good.

Paying for one TH at the full 40 point price is a bitter pill to swallow, but seems marginally worth it with the right WT. Is anyone running one for 16 points on a Sergeant instead or in addition? I was going to run a TH Sgt, 4x Chainswords, and one of these HQs as my turn 3 melee beatstick, and send the TH Captain up the other side of the board to have hammers where I need them to finish of vehicles and big baddies when the meltas come up short.

Dont discount a Burning Blade cappy. He's basically a middle ground between the Teeth of Terra blender and the Hammernator big game hunter. With Imperium's Sword he's putting out 6 S8 AP5 D2 attacks on the charge, before Chogorian Storm, Hunters Instincts or any other shenanigans.

I regularly run one in a WS Successor Chapter in support of my Deathwatch (Terminator, Sword and Storm Shield loadout). It hasnt let me down.

I'm starting to think that the best WTs are things that buff on the charge, since WS can do that every turn, and the best wargear and relics are those that turn said WTs from good to great. I'm going to have to retool this list a bit.

Should I step carefully around WS supplement relics and WTs vs. stuff from the Codex, or is it all effectively "Space Marine stuff in a Space Marine army"?

I think I'm sold on the Burning Blade + Imperium's Sword in place of the Scimitar relic... I'll give it all a try in a 1k game this weekend.

For fun context, my group has a Ork Biker list, a Dark Angels list, and a GSC Atalan Jackals/Ridgerunners list in addition to my White Scars AND my host is building a Canyonlands-inspired table that's all twisting canyons and spires.

Thanks for the insights!

So I ran all three bike captains yesterday: Hunter's Instincts + Thunder Hammer, Imperium's Sword + Burning Blade, and Khan + Khan's Spear.

It was a more casual game as my opponent and I were both testing new units; he ran 2x6 Nobz on Bikes, Warboss on Trike, 3 assorted Buggies, and some Stormboyz.

I was pretty impressed with all three Captain builds. The Hammer Captain took out the Warboss in a single round and then heroically intervened into a fight with a Buggy and one-shot-killed it on my opponent's turn. The Khan w/ Spear also took out a Buggy in a single phase. The Blade Captain went through Nobz like butter.

So, I'll continue to tinker, but these three did some heavy lifting for the army. Thanks for everyone's feedback!

Love it. White Scars are in a great position to field multiple beatstick characters, and boost all of them with different and flexible abilities.

Yep, all three of them were hitting at S8 on the charge... all of my turns, plus with good screening, about half of my opponent's turns as well. Hit on 2s, reroll 1s, deny most saves, and mostly flat multipoint damage. Fall back and charge means they go where they're needed... it really comes down to screening them effectively so they don't get shot up or bogged down.

Cap on bike with Storm Bolter, Teeth of Terra, and you can go with either Chogrian Storm, Master Rider, or if you wanna make him slightly more TAC Hunter's Instinct. Cheap and quite the monster. I love him a lot.
