I have been day dreaming about starting a traitor marine army and I've always wanted to make a small force of the Fallen. for those units that aren't specifically Cipher and the fallen, I have been wondering what legion trait would best fit such an army. I could go with the simple choice of the black legion. The night lord and alpha legion trait might be a bit more thematic. Or I could go with whatever is most competitive, I could spin some narrative excuse.

What do you think? What trait would you pick for the fallen angels.

GW:"Space marines got too many options to balance, therefore we decided to legends HH units."
Players: "why?!? Now we finally got decent plastic kits and you cut them?"
Chaos marines players: "Since when are Daemonengines 30k models and why do i have NO droppods now?"
GW" MONEY.... erm i meant TOO MANY OPTIONS (to resell your army to you again by disalowing former units)! Do you want specific tyranid fighiting Primaris? Even a new sabotage lieutnant!"
Chaos players: Guess i stop playing or go to HH.

Odd, I'm not seeing anything in the Choas Marine FAQ. Where might I find this expansion?

Second Vigilus book. But you do have to actually use Fallen rules, not counts-as like what you are talking about. So, without adding in Chaos allies, if I remember correctly from when I mocked up the points myself, you could make about around 1000 point force using maxed out squads with combi plasma and geared up Rhinos and the Sorcerer and Cypher.

If the truth can destroy it, then it deserves to be destroyed.

Aye
.
However you can also always add fallen to a regular detachment without breaking it and the trait due to shady allies?

If you didnt want the chaosy units i'd prob go vanilla marine dex and use the chapter traits, stealthy would be a good one to start with.

load up on stenguard to represent the bulk of the force

Sorcs and rhinos. Not a huge amount of stuff but it's a start. For my Fallen inspired force I'm using the rationale that some are further on the path to chaos than others to include some full on chaos models and some very imperial looking ones. Probably run them with whatever chaos rules seem best at the time. Need to get more combi-plas guns though.

Take a look at what I've been painting and modelling: https://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/0/725222.page
