I know its still October but looking back at 2019 and nothing grabbed me games-wise at all.
I had a good old stint of Vermintide when its DLCs dropped back in Jan/Feb but after that.....nada.
Found myself playing loads of retro games on emulatoirs mainly.

How did you guys get on? Just a quiet year or?

I first wanted to get anno1800, sadly removed - BrookM got in the way and put it as epic / ubi store exclusive.

Then i hoped for more hoiv stuff but nada.

Mordhau grabbed me but it needs to be varied imo, not to mention that some of the community there are questionable.

Yeah overall it was a bland year kinda.
Went sofar as to reinstall insurgency.

Had to check my Steam receipts to see what I got this year, that's how quiet things have been so far for me!

Risk of Rain 2 saw a lot of play when it was released in April (I think it was?), we revisit every few months to check out the new content they add in over time.

And was the Resident Evil 2 remake released this year, or late last year? If so, that one has been a lot of fun for me, makes me hope that the wait for the Resident Evil 3 remake won't be as long.

Other than that, the Mechanicus expansion was released this year, but never got around to playing it, still need to make time for that one.

GTFO should still be coming some time this year, have high hopes for that one, as coop shooters are our bread and butter.

I've picked up a fair number of things this year, but the majority were expansions to games rather than new games.

Part of the issue is that I seriously need a new harddrive, esp as games are getting bigger and I'm not on the fastest internet connection so I rather download and keep installed than download and delete. For example I jumped on the recent Humble Monthly for Spyro and Crash (esp Spyro) but I can't install either of them.
Meanwhile I've been eyeing the discount deal on Battlefleet Gothic 2 (even though some reviews are not favourable) but its again a big game that I don't have space for.

I did pick up Three Kingdoms Total War, though Warhammer 2 still dominates my TW interest at present.

So yeah it been a quieter year for me too, though there's some big games in the work that I wouldn't mind getting. That 3D factorio style game and Borderlands 3 (both epic exclusive at present, but with the HD issues I've got I'm not pressed to get them at present since even if I bought them I couldn't do anything with them); Mount and Blade 2 is also "coming" one day and that's a big thing on the radar.

3 Kingdoms is easily my favorite PC game of the year. Been playing the hell out of it. I also got myself a switch pretty much solely to play Super Smash Bros. All other games (Breath of the Wild, Daemon x Machina, Marvel Alliance) have been enjoyable bonuses.

Good observation, I usually find some kind of game to "grab me" but find I keep going back to games I played a lot but did not quite get around to finishing.

Darkest Dungeon, Grim Dawn, Frost-Punk, Borderlands 2 and Fallout 4 seem to get most of my casual game-time.
I have been playing Borderlands2, Diablo 3 and Path of Exile lately with my kids which we all seem to enjoy, but again: nothing new.

It has been pretty slow. Devil May Cry 5? Mario Maker 2? Probably the big ones for me. The Switch eShop has been keeping me entertained, but a lot of that is ports of games I hadn't finished. Katana: Zero was exceptional though.

It's been pretty good for me really. I mean, I've been late to the party in that I only got an Xbox One at the start of the year, so I've been catching up I guess. Absolutely loving Forza Horizon 4 - OK technically it came out at the tail end of last year...

Currently, I've got high hopes for The Outer Worlds. Conveniently I have the week off work after it launches!

having an aging PC and a tight budget means I don't tend to pick much up, per my GoG account the last games was Neverwinter Nights 2 last December, which I missed first time round cos WoW, and per Steam Into the Breach earlier this year

but I completed Lords of Midnight, only took 35 odd years so counting 2019 as a gaming win

It was a good year for watching epic failures (and also Epic failures) and enjoying the schadenfreude.

Games-wise... eh. A few expansions, Three Kingdoms (which I burnt out on too quickly). but mostly a whole lot of nothing.
Next year has a couple big name games, but I'm expecting mostly more nothing, with very few exceptions.

Efficiency is the highest virtue.

Three Kingdoms was the only game I recall going into 2019 that I was hyped for. I like it and I sunk quite a bit of time into it, but I'm still all about WH2. Every content update and DLC has been fun to play and 3K has stayed on the backburner. I mean to get back into it, but just can't.

I play a few rounds of Insurgency: Sandstorm almost every night as well. edit: Which was a late 2018 release now that I've wiki'd it.

I'm not sure how many games I bought and played this year actually came out this year. Fire Emblem Three Houses, for Switch, is one I'eve enjoyed and really need to get back to. I'm taking a good look at the new Ring Fit Adventure game, since my lazy fat ass needs the exercise and I'll take any excuse I can to make it work.
Looking ahead, I'm definitely looking forward to Cyberpunk 2077.

The only game I bought this year was battlefield V for something like 5-10 dollars. It's been a boring bland year for games far as i'm concerned. Doom Eternal was supposed to save the year for me. But it got delayed until march 2020. So next year is looking good with cyberpunk 2077 and doom...and hopefully that necromunda underhive wars game that seems to have gone quiet.

The only game I spend money on this year is the socialist paradise simulator (thanks, wifey!)

I got The Bureau: XCOM Declassified, which I quite enjoyed, being it a Panzerfaust game (play once and throw away)
I played HoI4 quite a lot, making several attempts with both defensive and offensive Czechoslovakia, either democratic or fascist and conquering Europe as Nazis or allying them as the UK...
I played Wasteland 2 too for a while, but I lost interest in it. Same with Cities Skylines, or XCOM2 and Skyrim.

I tend to stay away from most AAA games, mostly because of how crappy they are, but since my PC is over 12 years old, and some games are unplayable for me because of the HW requirements.

I enjoyed Mordhau quite a lot. Solid game without the worst of the wacky Chivalry doding shenanigans.
Map selection sucs, far too few and they patched only 1 new map in which was unwinnable for one side for the first few months. I recently saw they released another map, but I haven't played it yet.

WoW Classic also was something I enjoyed this year.

Death Stranding gets some really good publicity right now and I have to say, it does look quite like something I could enjoy and will eventually end up buying.

I never managed to do that as Czechoslovakia. As a Czech, I'm biased, because it's AUSTRO-HUNGARIA... Something's missin'
My current HoI4 game is as the British Empire conquering back all the mongrels who think declaring independence on the crown is a cool idea. I'm neutral with the Nazis and Soviets, but the French went with the Reds and got their butts spanked. (No big surprise)

This year I played:

- Mordhau
- Battlefleet Gothic Armada 2
- Astral Chain (Switch)
- Code Vein
- Pathfinder: Kingmaker

I did play HoI4 and Stellaris quite a lot, but their latest DLC was either uninteresting for me or broke the game (no AI to speak of, horrible performance)

So far my pick for Game of The Year is gonna be Modern Warfare. The story was absolutely incredible, and the execution of the multiplayer has been a lot of fun (normally I hate that part of the game.)

No, nothing sticked.

I had high hopes for Division 2, but its story, UI and gameplay is worse then div1.
Wreckfest on ps4 is fun but the mp is lacking the basics like class limitation and spcial vehicle lockouts. (seen there been a few update to it but i havent bothered to start the game)
Red dead 2 online could have consumed me but severe lack of content, and slow paced release of what little they do make, means it wont be playable for another 2-3 years, but by then we are all knee deep in gta6o on ps5.

What has consumed my time this year however is For Honor. The chages done to it after marching fire dlc realy helped the game out of the gutter.

But will say that cod mw suprised me.
The online is too repetative to keep playing for months like cod 4 had me do, (and realism mode is just boring night vision maps)however it is the first cod game since World at War where i activly played to max non prestige lv.

edit:
Honorable mention: Switch.
Funbox that i dont use nearly as mutch as i should do. Shame on me!

Yea but the night maps are still in rotation and they appear more frequently then day maps.

Issue i have is that you cant remove the night laser on the weapons, so when you run with NVG on, the laser gives away your position when you ADS.
Ofc you can choose to play without the goggles but i barly see the map then.

Ground war i played 1 time and i will never ever select it again. You either make it a dupicate of BF, or you dont make the mode at all!
Thank god for hardcore, that is where i spendt my time from lv 30 to 100.(allso did my sidearm from lv1 to 34 in 3 days in there!. The lvs just fly buy as moust of them is 1 hit kills and the toss up to ADS is faster then primary weps, even the smgs.)

I've picked up a fair few games this year, as usual (so far). . . Weirdly, the game that seems to have grabbed more of my attention (in terms of those purchased in 2019) than any of the others bought this year, was an annual iteration game.

I picked up Borderlands 3, and I've played quite a bit of it, but still haven't finished the story, havent max leveled a character or anything. Heck, I haven't touched it in probably a month and a half now.

I got Greedfall, and maybe I just don't have the patience or something, but I've barely scratched the game (this first character, I am trying to build a landsknecht looking BA sword person. . . but you have to build several levels into the game before you can unlock the ability to use 2 hand swords)

The game of 2019 that has taken most of my gaming time, is the annual F1 game, F1: 2019. . . I spend more time running through the character/career mode in there, than probably any other game.

The only other game that I bought this year that has come close to the number of hours as F1, is The Witcher 3, but that was released a few years ago now.
