What are your hopes and dreams for gaming in 2020?

- I’m still working on painting my piles of minis, but the big things to get painted are my Impulsor, Castellan, and my English Privateers.
- I’m looking forward to either a few Kill Team or 40K games with my “new” Primaris force
- Want to get in some games of X-Wing 2.0
- Hoping to pick up the new Car Wars game near the end of the year
- On the role-playing front, I want to try out the Aliens game I have acquired and intend to complete the Saltmarsh campaign I am DMing.

It never ends well

- Stop taking commissions; paint my own stuff actually. Money is cool but how about having models that I can call my own
- Stop painting in a low "Table top quality" and attempt a higher level of painting
- Build a new City Terrain table
- Run the local Frostgrave League + 2nd edition
- Make some new friends at the local stores around the city. I rarely game in an actual store and simply invite people over.
- Paint More Fantasy and less sci fi / 40k
- Teach another friend to paint. I try and teach one friend a year how to paint and get them into the hobby.

Every year I generally recycle, refine, and renew my old ones. This is where I stand for 1019:

Here are my New Year’s resolutions:
1 Finish painting the odds and ends from my friend's SOB army that I worked on. Just a handfull of arcoflagelents, spare immolater weapons, some IG HQs.
2 Paint more than I buy.
3 Paint At least 12 spare bits. I've magetized a number of things, painted the primary set up, but never get around to doing the other options.
4 Try to get more games in. Optimally 24, with at least some being AoS.
5 Update my blog at least once a week, and maintain a consistent pace of work (1 mini a week).
6 Get my Deathwatch army to a larger level, 2 more full squads minimum, aiming to field an allied battalion (2HQ, 3Troops) and 1,000 points.
7 Enter and finish an entry every month for the painting challenge. If the monthly challenge stops, enter at least one comp in the year. In addition, paint something odd from the back of the bench a/o try out a new technique.
8 Buy, build, and/or paint at least one piece of terrain.

Some changes:
1 - I just agreed to paint up the new SoB box for my friend. So this goes from "low priority, he hasn’t played in years no rush” to “Work into active rotation” It will also depend a lot on if any of the odds and ends are needed for active lists. This goal will also have “paint the whole box” added to it. At my 1-a-week pace, this is doable. I’ll probably word it as “paint 25 SoB models” or whatever is in the box. As some multipose kits might end up on my bench and take precedent.
2 - same
3 - same (although I am making decent inroads into the pile, depending how much I add to it, this might be the last year I call this out)
4 - same
5 - same
6- Due to the SoB, I think I might drop this down to one squad added to the Deathwatch. I’ve got 5 guys built and primed, another 5 and that’s a new kill team. I have enough units for the Bat, not sure what my total points are, but might have hit the 1k goal.
7 - same
8 - same

Finish a damn project! This year mostly consisted of cleaning off stuff from my work bench. I managed to paint over 100 models this year but it was a bit scattershot with no one project feeling any more love then another.

So for 2020 I have 2 overall plans
1. Finish 1000pts of Stormcast
2. Finish my 2000pt of Ogor Mawtribes

Those are my main goal for 2020. After that maybe, finally, finish painting my Conan miniature game Kickstarter that's been half finished for the last 3 years.

TL;DR

MBA in final stages, will impact degree of hobby time I have in 2020.

Events Planned
  • Adepticon 2020 (Long War 40k Doubles, AoS Championship)
  • Adepticon 2021 (AoS Team Tournament,...maybe one thing on the weekend?)

  • Gaming Goals
  • Learn BMG (with Bane Crew)
  • Learn Infinity (with Combined)
  • Play in more events (local et al depending on availability and schedule), prioritizing BMG and Infinity

  • Hobby Goals
  • Give a hoot about armies (currently invest 15% effort, I want minimum 50% effort)
  • Infinity Combined Army
  • 1k Custodes for Adepticon 2020
  • Adepticon 2020 painting competitions (Resin Beast and Golden Demon)
  • Ossiarch Bonereapers (plug away at army)
  • Display Pieces (finish through before I buy more)

  • Woosh. I'm entering the final two terms of my (part-time) MBA and I expect our capstone 601 course to take up a huge amount of time (it amounts to a part-time job on top of course work and my full-time job) so I actually expect my hobby to take a massive hit next year.

In terms of gaming goals, I want to become adept at two games: BMG by Knight Models, and Infinity by Corvus Belli. I don't expect I'll hit the same level of familiarity I currently have with 40k and AoS, but I want to ensure that I am competent mechanically with the games. The two factions I am playing for this games will factor into my hobby goals.

I also want to attend as many events as I can, within reason. I am already signed up for Adepticon 2020 (Thursday off, Friday is Long War 40k Doubles, and Saturday-Sunday is the AoS Championship), and I help run/manage a local event that we are trying to grow (which runs in September). The rest will be up to flux based on schedule and availability, but I will prioritize BMG and Infinity events over 40k and AoS.

We've also already begun preliminary discussions within our hobby and gaming crew for the AoS Team Tournament for Adepticon 2021. More than likely I'll be responsible for the joint display boards, but no clue what armies specifically we'll be bringing. We will be building this team and armies specifically to win (in all aspects), so this will probably involve a brand new AoS army (at least the 1000 pts of it) unless LoG comes back into vogue (unlikely) or Bonereapers consistently performs top-tier (which is hard to say; book is too new now, and GW's release schedule is insane). Basically the tail end of the year will involve ramping up prep and planning for this.

My hobby goal for 2020 is kind of straightforward? And it's basically to give a hoot. I've probably spent the past...5 or 6 years coasting through my armies, and I probably invest (generously) about 15% effort maximum on my tabletop models. A large part of this is aimed at speed, getting models done quickly so I can play games (I don't like using unpainted models) and this has largely worked well for me. My Necrons and Legion of Grief are both 100% done, and so I can play games in both systems without worrying about getting stuff painted, which means I am afforded a bit of time on other projects where I can actually put forth effort. The ideal number for tabletop is probably about 50%.

My Bane Crew sits at around that, and I'm very happy with how they turned out, so that's a great start. The models paint up quickly and Bane crews tend to be low in model count so any random additions throughout the year will be few and quite easy and quick to paint up.

My Infinity Combined Army will be a real challenge. I have my initial whatever points picked out, so I'll be focusing on painting all the models I currently own before adding more. This will probably be one of the few times where I'll be forced to play with unpainted models for a long period as I slowly work through the force.

I intend to enter Resin Beast and Golden Demon at Adepticon 2020, so the first few months of the year will be spent focusing on those.

I have an (unfortunately) large pile of Ossiarch Bonereapers now, but I think it'll be a fun side-army project to work on in between some of my other projects. The goal is to get my army done by the end of the year, with (probably) most of the work done post-August once I"m done my MBA. My Legion of Grief are completely done, so I have a playable AoS army for tournaments. I'm hoping the army stays very competitive into 2021 so that I can bring them to Adepticon next year.

I am also doing a small (11 infantry, 1 tank) Custodes army for the Long War 40k Doubles event this year, so depending on when I can get the models for that, I might try and squeeze them in before the end of this year (but it doesn't look terribly likely).

I also finally have a backlog of display pieces, busts, etc. that I am going to pull out every now and again when I need a day or two to just flex some creative muscles. I have a couple Creature Caster models, a few sci-fi pieces, and a few historical pieces, so I would like to make a dent in those. I have resolved not to buy any more until I finish all of these.

I set these goals in July, we'll see how I've done
First off, finish the Bat-Log. Not far to go (about 20 odd models), just need to get it done.
Start working through Malifaux to get it done, working by keyword. Finish my favourite thematic crews and the generic options first, then move into the more unpainted stuff.
Crack into Kill Team. Should be quick projects, but I have a couple teams planned.

First up is Batman. I bought more models since then, but I've gotten it down to only 4 models I need to paint
Malifaux. This is coming along well, with most of my core crews painted and getting through the extras fairly well. Slow grow happening at the moment is helping my hobby a lot as it's motivating me to paint my unpainted crews
Kill Team. My one team got built, but never painted.

Then my goals for 2020. I plan to slow the rate of expansion now because I've got a whole bunch of projects going for different games and I realistically can't sustain more systems, but I have a few things planned
Batman- Catch up on a few releases for my Bane and Batman crews before diving into the new edition. Just need a couple things to stop me proxying henchmen, they'll be painted fairly easily.
Malifaux- Finish my backlog (still 40-odd models to go, but it's doable over summer). Buy a Perdita crew and the last few pieces for what I own
Warcry- Paint everything I own, after that maybe pick up some of the new monsters coming out.
Middle-earth- Finish painting my Easterlings and then buy and finish my Fiefdoms. Already have 3 armies I'm happy with (Grey Company, Army of the Dead and Fellowship) so once I've finished off 4 and 5 I'm happy to call this system done (maybe a little dip into Mordor for allies?)
Kill Team- paint it. No interest in expansion or in new teams at this stage
30k- this one is the spectre that's been hovering over me ever since I sold my first army. Dark Angels, my first hobby love, are getting their full releases and I'm really excited to buy back in again if only for a hobby project. The overarching goal of the year is to get into this once I can work out a definite army list, planning 3000 points plus the Lion.

Finish writing up my B5 campaign.
Get all the minis for said game painted.
Fully paint three warbands for Underworlds.
Attend at least three Underworlds tournaments.
Attend at least four premier level X-Wing tournaments and make the cut in at least two (already booked for two).
Run at least three X-Wing tournaments (already booked for two).
Assemble and paint an army for Legion.
Play something new, nothing in particular just something new.

Should be entirely achievable though I am pretty slack when it comes to the painting of things!

    My 2020 Gaming Goals:

    * Paint an average of 1 miniature a day (365 over the course of the year; this year I hit just over 100)
    * Play some games of my "standards": AOS, Moonstone, WWX.
    * Try a bunch of new, indie rule sets. I have a stock of various Osprey and other indie game books and I really should try a few out rather than letting them gather dust on my shelves.

Side quest of trying not to buy too much crap to add to my shelves without painting at least an equal amount of what I buy.

I'm just returning to the hobby after a ~5 year hiatus where I didn't have time anymore, and then got rid of everything for a move to another country.

So now that I have a completely fresh start, my main goal is to avoid the common pitfalls.

-Ideally, I'm only allowing myself to buy new kits for a given game once I've fully built, painted, and based the last addition.

As I only have a handful of Gaslands cars made and a 40k battleforce on the way I should be off to a good start since I don't have the typical piles of countless backlogged minis. Along with having a new player base to game with my pride should stop me from using unfinished minis for quite some time.

-I want to make time for at least 2 game days per month if not one weekly.

-Avoid army A.D.D. I can justify spending the money on gaming if I'm just periodically adding to my main forces. It's an investment of sorts. But I can't be spending large amounts of my expendable income on half armies I'll never fill out on a whim like I used to.

    That's about it so far.

My goals are to get some of my Gaslands backlog worked on.

Also, working on getting a fully completed "set" of material for Dracula's America. I.E., two fully painted warbands and a table full of completed terrain and tokens, rather than lots of stuff half-completed like for several of the other games I collect. Literally enough stuff that I could run a full, finished demo if I had to. That way I can then start working on random projects for it (mostly other warbands) with a fully finished core to fall back on for games.

Right now 100% of the minis games in my collection are "in progress", where to play them at all (especially if I am providing the models for the other player) there would be a bunch of unpainted grey plastic making an appearance.

My goals for 2020 are mainly to paint substantially all of my Imperium forces for 40k. That doesn’t mean literally every model, but anything that’s a complete, usable unit that isn’t a collectible or rare item. My IG are essentially complete, so that leaves ultramarines, admecn, grey knights, imperial knights, dark angels, and blood angels. All but the GK and ultras are under 1000 points each now.

As a side goal, I want to really limit how much I buy, painting or selling far more than I pick up.

Going to sell off the giant pile of stuff in the spare room, as I am not playing much honing to focus on hobby side for 40 and build an inquisition warban to support my marines.

Going to sell my 30k mechanicus and just keep my marine armies, Alpha Legion, T Sons, Iron Hands, Salamanders and imp fists.

Sell the AoS stuff I have and focus on KoW, just got into The Game of Thrones game and might actually get them painted since the come built.

Buy more Gunpla to build, paint and weather as good airbrush practice, paint more I general as pretty rusty.

I could go on but selling a lot of stuff and cutting back on GW products even more than I currently have.

Going to build more garage kits and lightsabre hits.

Your last point is especially laughable and comical, because not only the 7th ed Valkyrie shown dumber things (like being able to throw the troopers without parachutes out of its hatches, no harm done) - Irbis

Going to have a lot more free time in 2020 so I have been making a list of gaming projects I want to do with some of this time.

Since GW announced their introduction kits for libraries and other interested venues, I was asked to lead a group for the library I work at. We would be focusing on painting, playing, and discussion. So I should get more familiar with the rules for 40k and AoS, and their specialist games.

    Personal projects:
    Start Necromunda with Enforcers.
    Start AoS with FEC.
    Catch up on Warcry books.
Catch up on Kill Team books.
    Pick up some Harlequin models.

    Goals for 2020?

Another 10 per month painting goal (just missing it this year). Big goals this year are pretty simple:

    1) Finish collecting and painting the miniatures needed for my dungeon crawl project.
    2) Finish the dungeon crawl project and then see if it's worth retail consideration.
    3) Run both of my games (Old West and Dungeon Crawl) at a couple of conventions.
    4) Finally get some more mounted Cowboys and paint them.
    5) Sell off anything 40K that's left over, and box up my two armies.
    6) Find and start a new sci-fi skirmish game which isn't dependent on a company's models.
    7) Build some more terrain.
    8) Get a few more mats.

    I think I'll chime in with a 2020 Plan:
    1) Build up a Sororitas army and post updates in my Dakka thread.
    2) Finish building my remaining SW models.
    3) Make a foam storage system for all my models including my bag o' orks that haven't seen the light of day since 8th dropped.
    4) Paint a friend's gameboard minis such as Dark Souls or Silver Tower.
    5) Attempt to DM some RPG systems.

I'll try to check in halfway through 2020 and see how I've progressed.

    - Finish off getting my 30k Alpha Legion painted and actually get some new games of 30k in! Need to actually get the vehicles finished. It's been too long...
    - Finish off my 2 Frostgrave Warbands
    - Get a workable force of my Darklands Erainn actually painted and get some new games in
    - Get my Delaque Gang done so that I can start running them in my campaign!

I love these threads, so cool to see what everyone is working on.
I have loads of ambitions for next year, probably way too much!
    - I want to finish my dungeon set up, and finish off my last dungeons and dragons stuff for a complete-ish set. This includes some individual monsters, and then groups of barbarians, gnolls, and demons. This could go on forever, but as long as I get some progress done I will be happy.
    - Scenery - I have made some progress on making a basic dark ages europe terrain set up. Next up are some medieval ruins, then some jungle pieces and finally, if I get there, some city and industrial terrain. This has been a major success for me this year so I hope it continues.
    - Sci Fi - having gotten the sci fi bug again, I am super excited to build up small forces for a bunch of Grimdark Future factions.
    - Play some games! Now that I have my own scenery again, I want to play some games of Age of Fantasy and Grimdark Future. I have sussed out a co-worker as a potential opponent, and my wife might be willing as the system is so simple. I am really excited to play again, after a very long time only playing Roleplaying games and never any wargames. This is ambition number 1. If I get this done, I will be satisfied no matter what.
