After a slow start I've come to like Legion quite a bit and found I'm quite motivated to paint Legion models. Although I'm a slow painter and easily distracted, this is the time to give my growing collection a permanent home that I fully expect to be be infrequently updated with my latest work.

I didn't have a project log before because I opted for mostly utilitarian paintjobs for my Legion models but then Sabine Wren came along, I got inspired and actually put a good amount of work into her. And I have to say I'm quite pleased with how she turned out:

I reckon the paintjobs for regular troopers will still be all about getting armies painted rather than getting the best quality out of them, but even so I like to think that my attitude has changed between the Fleet Troopers I painted last year and the Clone troopers I painted a couple of weeks ago, resulting in the latter looking a tad better.

I find Legion's models quite charming even though I'm not a big fan of heroic scale, and I did some arm and head swaps on the Fleet Troopers so that the three squads look different. I put in the same effort for the other two squads of Phase 1 Clone Troopers, but haven't painted them yet because I want to focus on the Rebels first to get a proper army to play with. I've so far only played small games in which the Fleet Troopers were led by Leia (using Brother Vinni's miniature rather than the stock one) and supported by one AT-RT.

A second AT-RT is well on its way, converted like the first one to be piloted by a Fleet Trooper. I'm not really a fan of the Rebels and kind of got volunteered to play them, but I always liked the Fleet Trooper look and wanted that as the theme of my army, so everything that's added to the army and isn't a named character like Sabine will get converted accordingly.. I have a generic officer with a Fleet Trooper helmet in the pipeline along with a speeder that will be converted to fit with the army theme. I'll probably also convert two leftover troopers into a sniper team. Ideally that will wrap up the Rebels and I can get my modest Republic forces painted. Though where it's really at for me is the Empire. I've hoarded quite a few Empire kits but haven't had the time to do anything with them. Hopefully that will change in the new year.

Until then, this is the start of my Legion showcase. Hope you enjoy Rebel scum.

Some excellent looking rebels there Geifer, very well done! I'm loving the camo scheme for the Clone Troopers the most though - a brilliant execution (And far more adventurous than mine!). I've also got to compliment you on the superb blending of the colours in Wren's hair. Keep up the good work

I painted my second AT-RT:

This time with larger racing stripes to give the top of the machine more presence.

That's the Rebel walkers sorted out.

The Rebel Commander is painted:

I added a Fleet Trooper helmet to tie him in with his army, but kept the orange shirt from the box cover because it's cool, sets him apart and obviously orange goes well with blue.

Medical Droid Unit Attachment

With this model I finally got around to giving Contrast paint on a silver basecoat a try (in my case ocher for a gold finish). Got some more tinkering to do but it's a pretty nice way of achieving a worn metallic look that I intend to use more of in the future.

I like that droid, he does look a bit worn, and that works well

Thank you.

Next up is the Astromech from that box.

Inspired by the faulty one from Episode 4, I refrained from adding blue stripes to keep it in line with the red ones I used on the AT-RTs.

Another Clone squad done on the side in an effort to get the core of the army painted:

Squad two of three of the Phase 1 troopers. Everyone got arm swaps so as to have unique models and not just... clones of the first squad.

Thank you. I'm really happy they showed this camo pattern* in the Clone Wars show. I wasn't looking forward to having two armies with white armored troops and I certainly want to keep my Stormtroopers, whenever I'll actually get to them, classic. Bonus here is that the Empire has more variety in its troops and between Shoretroopers and Deathtroopers I won't have to paint an entire army white. Plus, I really like this pattern for how it looks, and not just for practical reasons.

*Or something close. No guarantees it's a perfect adaptation.

Aye, those are some really nice looking Clones. Are you going to do the BARC in the same colours?

On parle toujours mal quand on n'a rien à dire.

Thanks. Yes, the crew will have the same camo pattern. The speeder itself is planned to be some shade of beige. Possibly with red or yellow markings and/or racing stripes. I've considered camouflage for it, too, but I think that would overload the model and rob the army of a bit of contrast. It's not all set in stone yet and I'll see how I feel about it when I paint it, but for now that's the plan.

I had hoped to have a Saber tank in hand before painting it, so as to get a feel for how I want to tie together the different vehicles in the army, but that's not going to happen with the virus situation and the BARC is already well on the way, so I expect it to be long finished before I can even buy the tank.

The last of the specialist unit attachments for the Rebels:

I expect that with only the land speeder left to do before I run out of Rebels, most of my time will be spent painting more Republic troops in the near future.

Duros Jedi:

Built using Operative Luke, leftover parts from the BARC gunner and some green stuff, I made my own Jedi to lead my Republic army.

This is quite likely the best white armor I've ever painted. Not that being better than my previous efforts is hard, mind you. It's also a test of how it looks with satin varnish on it. I don't think it's visible in the picture, but I want to figure out if I like the effect. That'll be another step towards painted Stormtroopers, if successful. Those are still on the horizon, though. For now I need to finish the Rebel land speeder and I want to get the Republic army off the ground properly. As a reminder, I said this earlier:

Well, through my masterful use of the power of procrastination I am now the proud owner of a Saber after all. The BARC never made it past the basecoat stage, although the crew is making progress. So I still get to see how I feel about the tank and if that influences how I paint my Republic vehicles.

Here's my X-34 Landspeeder conversion, done at long last:

I had a good laugh seeing the speeder for the first time, but thought FFG was a little conservative with just two passengers next to the driver. So I set out to fix that and at the same time tie it in with the Fleet Trooper theme of my army. It's been a good bit of work and I think I've reached the point now where I never want to paint another Fleet Trooper again, but it was worth it and my Rebel army has its centerpiece now. Also, why we all know an army is never truly finished, I have all the models that I originally wanted for the army. There will no doubt be extras like some Mandalorians or perhaps a sniper team made from the leftover Fleet Troopers, but yeah, the army is in a good place.

I expect my focus to now shift on the Republic.

Here's a picture of the assembled Rebel army:

I rarely get to do full army pictures given my slow output, so I'm happy that I'm in a position to do so with the Rebels.

And now for the monochrome part of this thread! Imperial Officer:

I converted her a little to have her look closer to the box/card art with a repositioned arm, facial surgery and a haircut. No idea why the sculptor deviated so much from that art, but I think it is much to the detriment of the model. But, well, nothing a knife and a little green stuff can't fix.

Hopefully the first of many more Imperials to come, I put a little more work into the paintjob than the Rebels got (characters excluded, obviously). I think I have a fairly good idea now how to paint white and black armor (and really, white and black anything - no shortage of that in the Empire...). I don't think I could have said the same two years ago when I started painting Star Wars models. So I figure this is a good time to get started on that Imperial army I always wanted. That said, it won't be as quick as the Rebels since I intend to paint every model to a higher standard.

Death Troopers, blacker than the blackest black!

OK, technically that's a lie. I've done my level best to give the black bits (which is to say like 98% of each model) an interesting appearance by giving them translucency and basing them on various shades of orange and grey so as to not have a simple, plain black. I think that would have been too overwhelming.

But yeah, Death Trooper design is very black and I'm happy the models turned out the way they did, considering how little I can work with different colors on them. Novel experience for me.
