I'd like to hear people's opinions on what armaments these cogboys should be bringing.

Since they can join (read: hide behind) units of Monstrous Creatures, I'm not sure if stuffing them full of defensive upgrades (Machinator Array, Cyberfamiliar, Abeyant) is worth it, and they probably can't go face to face with combat kitted marine characters anyways (though an Archmagos with Cyberfamiliar might be able to survive a Paragon Blade fairly well).

As to shooting, they can take far more guns then they can really use. I lean towards Phased Plasma Fusil on a Magos and a Master Crafted Photon Thruster on an Archmagos (Relentless). The Phased Plasma Fusil is just generally killy and the Photon Thruster can cheekily blind units and ruin their day. I know the Conversion Beamer is powerful but you have to be very far away for it to really come to its own - maybe it's good on a Magos babysitting a Thanatar in the back field but I'm not feeling that it's a practical choice, especially given it precludes Machinator Array or Servo Arm.

Thoughts?

I go for a master crafted photon thruster but have on occasions gone for a master crafted graviton gun.

Macchinator array is a must since it allows you to fix a wound back onto a thanatar as well as take a shot with whatever your poison is

Interesting. Battlesmith says you can fix something instead of 'firing a weapon' but since the Array lets you fire two, you get to cheese it and fix something and shoot?

It also has a built in flamer and inferno pistol

Would also suggest prettty much always doing archmagos prime, WS4, BS5, T5, 3W, LD10, 2+ AND relentless for 35pts. If you combine with mechanicator array, he's now T6.

Do you play 30k? It'd be a lot cooler if you did.

Actually it's a +80 point difference (155 base vs 75), and he gets more expensive quite quick - easy to have him be 250+ points.

It gets better.

I think it was the last update and errata allowed you to put wounds back on your robots with battlesmith rolls, so consider the cyberthugy rules which have the same wording...

Yeah, it says "Instead of making a shooting attack".

Another question: The Rule of the Archmagos only permits one Archmagos per detachment? The wording "Only a single archmagos of any type" could mean "a single archmagos of each type", though I'm almost 100% sure they meant "a single archmagos regardless of type" Forge World seems better at writing rules than GW proper but it's still ambiguous.

It was why I was considering Magos Dominus + Archmagos Dominus rather than Double Archmagos (Archmagos Dominus + Archmagos Prime Myrmidax with guns, guns, guns).

Yeah, my read is it's restricting to a single archmagos per detachment - so you could have an archmagos reductor leading an Ordo Reductor allied detachment and an archmagos dominus leading your primary detachment of cybernetica (or the other way around).
The warlord has to be the one in the primary detachment though, so if you want Draycavacs walord trait then your primary detachment would need to be cybernetica.
If for reasons known only to a certain deity you feel the need for Calleb Decimas auto-select WLT then Ordo Reductor must be the primary.

My reasoning is that if they wanted you to only have one head honcho per army they would have used 'force' or 'army' instead of 'detachment'
