Hello,

I'm still quite a beginner in painting and so far mostly primed my vehicle models Chaos Black before applying my prefered camo scheme, which is based on Citadels Ushabti Bone. I would like to skip one of those steps and ideally use a primer that already is Ushabti Bone or as close as possible. Citadel does not produce those, so my question is: could anybody recommend me an alternative?

I surfed around a bit and found Army Painters Skeleton Bone, but I have no really comparison. Is it close to Ushabti Bone?

ayou can use Zandri Dust which is the natural undercoat for ushabti. Its a darker beige and works very well with UB as a hoghlight.

Ideally I would want an undercoat that already is about the color of Ushabti. So instead of the usual:
1. Undercoat
2. Ushabti
3. & 4th: Tallarn Sand and Dryad Bark

I could go:
1. "Ushabti" Undercoat
2. & 3rd: Tallarn Sand and Dryad Bark

That would be great...

Army Painter do one, it's called Skeleton Bone IIRC.

You don't happen to have a sample picture were I can see how close Skeleton Bone is to Ushabti Bone?

I do.

I'm advised that the 'gritty' texture is my fault rather than Army Painter's.

AP colour primers can spray on quite thick, you have to guess the correct distance to avoid the spray drying in the air before it adheres to the mini causing the gritty look.

Each of my three I had all behaved differently, which I thought was strange.

Thanks a lot excommunicatus. I think this will work for me.

@ Rybrook: thanks for the warning. In that case I will practice a bit before I go to the real models.

I tested it out and Army painter Skeleton Bone is just a nuance lighter than Ushabti Bone. You won't see it immediatly when you put an Ushabti colored model on the same table as an Skeleton Bone painted, but when you try to correct Little mistakes on the latter with Ushabti Bone, I would advise to mix a little bit of white into it or else one will see the difference.

But for my purposes the recommendation was great, thanks again.
