So it seems Darren Latham’s channel is ending, his latest upload will be his last and the channel will be gone by May.

It’s a crying shame as these in-depth, well-produced, non-patreon, free master-classes are not that prevalent. I have gotten a lot out of his vids, and will certainly miss his uploads.

I can’t imagine why GW sees them as an issue, but obviously they do. Maybe it’s his use of W&N brushes?

I wonder if GW is moving him over to do painting tutorials on their YouTube channel, taking Duncan's old spot as it were?

His stuff was great though, will be sad to see him go.

GW have probably requested him to close his channel. He often uses non-GW products, and is a current (and visible!) member of the sculpting/Eavy Metal team. There's an obvious conflict of interest there, at least for GW Head Office anyway.

It's a shame really as his channel had rapidly become one of my favourites for style and content. He had just hit 40K subscribers too, no small feat in a contested field!

Gw shutting it down is pretty laughably short sighted. I've watched his videos and the only product I can think of him using that wasn't gw was a solution to melt decals, which gw doesn't sell.

He uses gw paints and models. He is creating value for those things which would lead to people buying them. It's like free advertising for them.

Nope, almost certainly not. Many people have commented as much on his YT (kind of clumsy thing to do imo, instead of just thanking him for his great work there's a lot of complaining and conjecture) and he's not confirmed or denied. And as far as the non-GW product goes, the only thing I'm aware he uses different from GW, where GW sells a competing product, is the brushes.

No one knows for sure. Not that important either since the main thing is that we are not getting more content like this from him anytime soon.

I would say his tutorials are quite effective and simple to follow and he's not loud or OTT, its actually relaxing to watch him paint in the background while you carry on with your own hobby "duties".

Maybe he's shutting it down and going to do a runner to join Duncan for the advanced part of his course later - who knows.

IDK, he's pretty high up in the design studio. Painting is pretty much his hobby again now I think. Not that he wouldn't make it on his own, but he must be fairly comfortable where he is. I'm hoping it might be because GW want to do something more official with him after seeing that his vids are very good and also quite popular. It could equally just be that heno longer has time to put so much effort into a side project (though the abruptness of the end to his channel perhaps speaks against this theory, as he could just have easily trickled stuff out for a while if this were the case).

He is a miniatures designer now at GW and from what we've seen he really likes his job, so chances of him leaving any time soon seems slim to nil.

What I can't understand and maybe someone can clear this up for me, is why take the existing videos down? I can't see any reason other than a conflict of interest somewhere. I just can't help but think the higher ups GW are the reason this has come about. I mean again, I'm no expert but with more views and subscribers won't there be a point where these videos become monetised? Maybe that had something to do with it. Either way I'm gutted that there won't be any future content and doubly so that the existing stuff is going forever too.

I consider myself a pretty good painter but there was always something to be taken away from Darren's videos and he was great at talking you through the processes that a top level painter would use. It's a real shame IMO.

Damn what a crying shame! I really liked his videos. The black armour and NMM stuff is amazing. All of his work is top notch. Shame.

Well, there's YouTube-dl which is an open source solution for downloading YouTube content.

So I won't take credit for the idea but there is a rather splendid idea to get him enough subscribers to get him one of those Youtube button plaques as a kind of going away gift.
