Well, this is now available to watch at home due to the Coronavirus shutting down movie theaters. I kinda of thought the premise would be neat, so watched it.

My dudes. This movie blows ass.

First off, there was a minor controversy in the movie as various political figures latched onto the trailer, and they wound up moving the movie back. They then capitalized on the controversy when releasing it. They should thank their lucky stars that happened, because it probably drove half their ticket sales: seeing what all the noise was about. The movie probably thinks it's edgily sending up stereotypes but in reality, all the political stuff is just pretty tame and picks no sides whatsoever; a toothless edgelord. Regardless of how you lean, there are no interesting ideas here.

The plot is a fingernail clipping nothing that thinks it is too clever by half - if you've seen the trailer, you have pretty much the entire movie compressed, save for one minor and meaningless "twist". None of the characters are fleshed out in literally any way other than the barest caricature. One of the original trailers, the one showing her going into the grocery store and killing the staff, plays out differently here in such a way that they really screwed it up bad and robbed it of what actually DID work about seeing it in the trailer.

The action is not bad. Betty Gilpin's acting is fine, with what little they gave her to work with. There were one or two moments where I lightly snickered.
Spoiler:
Ike Barinholtz is barely in the movie, and Emma Roberts pulled an Steven Seagal/Executive Decision on us.

The movie is blessedly only 90 minutes and I paid nothing to see it. Even for free, I wish I had spent them doing something else.

If only it had been filmed like a late 1950's film, I would want to see it for sure then!

Is it like a crappy version of the crappy Van Damme Film Hard Target?

Pretty much figured the buzz around it would be more fun than the actual film, just watch Sightseers instead, a strange English film with a Natural Born Killers goes Nuts in May vibe

May watch both!

I mean, there’s no more pub anymore. Need to numb reality in other ways!

Overall, this movie has a wonderfully characterized hero in Crystal. One of the better depicted on film in a long time. It's just a shame that such a great depiction of a correct epistemology is wasted on this film.

If anyone is looking to see how you can write a good protagonist that uses free will to make moral choices based on reality instead of being pushed through a plot deterministically, give The Hunt a watch. The rest of the movie, well, you can toss in the bin.

It's so weird. I heard everything I needed to hear about this back when it was first screened and before it got pushed back. Having it finally out and people talking about it has me constantly checking to make sure its not something new.

Well I enjoyed it

There aren't too many satires released these days.
Sure it's a bit thin on the ground but I liked how they gave each character a little bit of time/a moment.
Betty Gilpin was fantastic, easily the best thing in it. I thought the rest of the cast were solid and it was nice to see some practical effects.

I personally think it's worth a watch but its been fairly divisive in the reviews so I guess you'll either like it or not.
I think this and Ready or Not will make a good double-bill.

Ready or Not is an absolutely excellent movie.

Ready of Not was fantastic.

This was fun. The wife and I laughed fairly loud a few times. It's not creative or original but the lead is solid and you definitely feel like none of the actors are taking it to seriously. It rips on the general issues across the board. What others call not taking a stand I call taking a piss out of the extremes in our society.

If you liked Ready or Not, and you haven't already seen it, "You're Next (2011)" is a good viewing if you liked that sort of dark comedy.
