Hi all,

New to 40k and having finished my 10x CSM's I have bought 5x Terminators which I want to equip for Close Combat. As i don't currently own the Codex and can't purchase it (lockdown) I need some help on how to best equip them. My thoughts so far are:

1: Heavy flamer and power fist
2: 2x Lightning claws
3: Combi plasma and power axe
4: Combi bolter and power fist
5: Terminator champion: Power sword and combi bolter

Thanks in advance!

combi bolters and if you want bit of punch in melee, claw, you need to keep them cheap, if you want an almost sure aip charge, play EC. For me termy are good cheap and in large number

Thanks Black.

So all with combi bolters and then 1 with claw, 2 with power fists, 1 power axe and champion with power sword?

i'd personally skip the powerfists. Chainaxes are one off the best options incidentally because they are cheap and do decent enough work.

I'd go more for 4 chainaxes and a PF (if need be) on the champion beause the bonus attack on him counters the -1 to hit modifyer from the fist.

Yeah, that makes sense. However having checked, unfortunately the box only comes with 2x power axes. it's actually quite restrictive in what can be used....

Tbh, the power axe and maul are decent options, also because they are cheaper then fists or claws. (claws i am split, on one side they are reliable on the other side they pay imo tad too much for them.)

THat said, with a bit off willingness and a sharp knife you can turn CSM squad chainswords as count as Chainaxes if need be.

Also, it's not restrictive, it's just that gw thought we needed even more Fences for spikes.

i play a squad with combi plasma + chainaxe in my night lords. dropping them in, putting prey on the weak and veterans of the long war on them, then double shooting with slaanesh is pretty strong. And night lords can help them make the charge if you drop them in terrain.

I heard that the Combi bolter and chainaxe is the best option. Maybe a powerfist or chainfist on the squad boss to deal with tough target, the rest just go cheap with combi bolter and chainaxe.

You'd have to buy from FW to be honest if you need extra weapons. GW really sucked when they made this box in particular and the design was super awful.

For the thread, though, you can do it of two ways:
1. Cheap as chips with Chainaxe and Combi-Bolter
2. Go all out with all Combi-Plasma + Autocannons and max out the squad

Not to sound pedantic, but maybe magnetize them? This lets you swap out the arms for the loadout you like.

Getting extra Terminator shoulder pads for the extra arms is a lot cheaper than new models.

Magnetizing infantry is too much a pain in the ass to be worth it.

Thanks all for the suggestions.

With the weapons supplied I went with combi bolters on all plus 2x power axes, 1x power fist, 1x power sword and 1x lightning claw. Not ideal but like I said, this is my second squad and I haven't played a game yet. I expect my downfall will be my tactical blunders instead of a squad being 100% efficient!

On another note, unless you really want the paper copy I would highly recommend buying the digital codex. It automatically updates (on iOS anyway, or you can re-download it) and CSM has had ALOT of changes since the first printing of their codex.

Hope is the first step on the road to disappointment.

termies are one of the easiest infantry to magnetize since theyre so chunky, it takes maybe 5 minutes top to add magnets at the shoulders and wrists...

Also, to add on to this there is no rule on WYSWYG (unless of course im wrong or it has been updated.). Tourn's may enforce such a rule however. But in casual games this should not stop you. But for ease of the game, you should probably make the loadout universal through the unit. So just state before the game that your units all run chain axes and use powermauls for the model.
