I played sigmar early on before the original generals handbook reboot. I don't know of anything about the current rules design. I pretty much swapped to 40k as my main tabletop fix.

I have 5 brutes, and the nighthaunt warband (5 ardboys)

I was thinking of adding in a start collecting box (war chanter, 10 ardboys, 3 gores) + a boss on a mawkrusha

I'm not super waac but would this be something decent that could scale to 2k afterwards?

Thanks

The Ironjawz starter box is pretty good actually, and you could consider buying two of those instead of one and a Mawkrusha.
I am mainly suggesting this as the Mawkrusha is best for battles above 1000 due to its cost.
But what you suggested is perfectly valid. A 1000point army could be the Mawkrusha, Warchanter, the Brutes, 5 Ardboys and the Gruntas at 960pts.

At any rate adding a Mawkrusha and a Start Collecting box (or 2) to the Brutes is all good. You would probably end up using all of it in a 2k army anyway. So it's just a question of what else you would want to include in a 2k list.

One thing that you did not mention, is wether or not you have the Orruk Warclans battletome. If you don't, then I'd encourage you to get that one too, probably before you buy any additional kits.

Ironjawz are on the higher side of strong armies. They can be brutally powerful, or solidly A to B tier in terms of strength depending how you build them.

There isn't much choices in terms of actual model or unit choice, you've got Ardboyz, Gore-Grunta's, Brutes, Warchanta, Whatever the name of their Wizard is, Mega-boss, and mega boss on mawkrusha.

Their strength then comes from optimizing the few choices you have with the appropriate buff applied at the right spot. 10 Ardboyz have a beefy stat line to begin with, but then you stick a Warchanta buff on them and you double their damage output. Real good stuff.

It's very hard to go wrong with an Ironjawz army for the reasons I said before. There are no weak units in the Ironjawz roster.

Skaven - 4500
OBR - 4250
- 6800
- 4250
- 2750

I do not have any of the current rules for aos.

I was thinking for 2k, a mawkrusha, warchanter, maybe an on foot megaboss. Then a mix of battleline units leaning more towards brutes or gores depending on play style once I get a feel for the units.

Side question, is it worth adding in Savage orcs for bowmen or just stick straight ironjawz?

If I were you, I wouldn't go out of my way to get the Megaboss on foot unless you really love the model. When you want a Megaboss, and you have a Mawkrusha, you will often want to go with that.

In regards to the Bonesplitters, I would stick to Ironjawz, unless of course you like the models. A straight Ironjawz army are working well in Ironjawz allegiance and you can also switch to Big WAAAGH if you want to spice things up, but all your models go with both setups.

I donn't know if you're still listening to this but I've been playing a lot of IJ 1K points recently so I'll tell you what I have learned.

Megaboss on foot is okay for 1K points, but is a really bad choice economically at 2K points.

For 1K points, you'll want one warchanter, at least 20 Hardboyz, or 40 if you can, and either a shaman or a megaboss.
