As a newbie necron, thanks to the covid quarantine, i've been reading my 'dex and I was wondering why doomsday arks can't get the same amalgamated targeting data rule doomscythes do.

It seems fair that if you actually take three of those pains in the to build, paint and transport without breaking they should get a bonus. Their doomsday cannons are at least on par with the scythe's deathrays so again, no real reason not to let DDAs use a similar rules especially if all 3 have to not move to use it.

I suppose GW looked at sales and decided the DDA was selling Ok and the doomscythe wasn't so they decided to by a buff just for it and not the DDA, that seems to be how they base a lot of their rules.

Mechanically, DDAs are a LOT better than Doomscythes-notably, they're a gakton more DURABLE, meaning you could reliably trigger the strat a lot more.

Doomscythes were trash, D3 shots hitting on 4+ and tesla destructors are worth very little more than four tesla carbines, without the Amalgamated Targeting Data nobody would take Doomscythes. Doomsday Arks got Quantum Deflection, which is an awesome Stratagem, I don't even know if it'd be unfair having the Stratagem if it was 3 Doomscythes or 3 DDAs and no mix/match since DDAs have range 72 usually, a 24" Stratagem wouldn't be that good unless you moved the DDAs, which is what some might do and already do, play their Doomsday Arks aggressively to make use of the gauss flayers which is not super fluffy, it's supposed to be a near-stationary weapon of mass destruction, not a highly mobile MW bombard. Doomscythes also had a rule that let them shoot multiple units with one attack in 5th/6th so there's some historic precedence. If a unit isn't selling because it has terrible rules it's super reasonable to give it better rules or a lower pts cost, the only good reason for people buying more of one unit than another should be how cool it looks, not that it has better rules. I think most Necrons that play using pts have 3 DDAs, you're not in an exclusive club for going through the hassle, get back to me when you've got 27 Tomb Blades, I gave up on building mine and respect anyone that gets through building and painting them immensely.

The unit that really needs it is the Sentry Pylon, they have one tiny dinky little shot with their focussed death ray, they could really use being included in the Amalgamated Targeting Data, exclusively with other death ray Sentry Pylons or in combination with Doomscythes.

Necrons are in bad need of a buff with PA, they were a mid-low tier army to begin with and have only gotten worse since then. I would say give this to any necron unit with a S10 gun, but they really need a different kind of buff, especially one that will maintain internal codex balance. As it stands, your proposal will only give even less of a reason to take doomscythes.

Ok the main objection is that without a 3 doomscythe specific buff no one would buy 3 doomscythes.

I'm not buying 3 doomscythes period so i guess i will maintain my current number of zero.

But it was overall a good discussion, it's too bad gw didn't decide to make doomscythes a bit better so people would buy one or maybe 2 and instead tried to make people buy 3 with this rule.

Speaking of doomscythes I did see a neat model people could use as a substitute in regular friendly games.
