Hi all,

New material here for me and I’ve never worked with it in my life.
Picked up some models off eBay and they’ve been printed using an Elegoo mars printer, so they are UV cured resin.
I assumed it would be much like normal resin to work with but I was very wrong.

Cutting this stuff requires a saw as it chips when using a knife or side cutters.
The biggest issue though is I’m unable to bend the stuff.
Tried the usual boiling water like with every resin I’ve worked with, but nothing.
The resin just heats up but doesn’t have any movement what so ever.

Any tricks with this stuff or will I have to chop and sculpt to change poses?

I'm sorry, but it's B - saw, file and sculpt.

The UV cured resin does not get pliable when heated up, unlike the two-part casting resin we are used to from traditionally made models.

Also, if you are working on the stuff, keep in mind that
a) it's brittle, so it can shatter on you and
b) the dust is toxic, sand it wet to avoid that you breathe any in and be careful not to touch your face, wash your hands well.

Thank you, I feared that may have been the case sadly.

And that’s fine, any resin work that involves sawing, sanding etc is done with gloves, mask and in the garage with the door open.
Just normal practice for me luckily.

Resin printed on a Mars is made by basically producing thousands of 0.02mm layers, tightly sandwiched together. It's just not physically able to flex compared a single piece casting.
