I realized that due to a number of computer failures and crashes, I have no documentation of my own work. The only pics that exist are on Dakka. While I love having Dakka as a permanent repository for my work, I would like to download some of the better shots so I can have my own copies again. When I do this out of the gallery, the photos I get are not the size of those I uploaded and the difference is telling.

Is there any way I can download the full-sized versions of my photos? Not hundreds mind you... just a couple of dozen, and only those I uploaded myself.

Thanks!
Gits

Trying one of your pics at random, this shows as full size. Click the link to see it as its own page, or on the spoiler below to view at full size in the thread:

And here's two of your most recent:

Spoiler:

From all this, I see that:

- The first older random image had a much smaller full size file uploaded, what you see there is the biggest available. This is likely due to either an older camera, resizing/editing the image prior to uploading, or both
- The two recent images, one was cropped for width prior to uploading, so that narrower version is what's available. This must have been done prior to uploading, you can see how large the other one is in all dimensions

Anyway, I think this means the full size file available for older images isn't going to be quite big enough really but that's all there is. However, if these are satisfactory, I'm just getting these links by clicking on "full size" in the gallery image, copying the forum posting code into a post preview, and then pulling out the link / deleting all the tags (anything in brackets). Not sure if there is an easier way but with this, you could click on those images above, or the links, and just download the full size image from there (by right clicking on the image).

Let me know if this is clear as mud, or if anyone has an easier way . In my defense, I did this all from a phone / with no keyboard!

This also reminds me what wonderful work you have, Gits . Always glad for an excuse to drool over your stuff!

This is the part I don't get...

"and then pulling out the link / deleting all the tags"

If I do this, I'm left with a hyperlink that yields the same size graphic as just taking it out of the gallery. What am I missing?

Hey Gits...

Well darn I think I might have only succeeded in telling you a roundabout way of doing what you were already doing . My apologies...

But regarding this particular image, it looks like it is here in the gallery:
https://www.dakkadakka.com/gallery/473493-.html?m=2

And the full size is listed as 2400x853 pixels. I think, unless I've been missing something all these years, that that means you simply resized it to 2400 pixels wide before uploading. I often do this, because the gallery's size options are generally too small for modern screens, so the only way to get a bigger size is to use "full sized" (meaning you have to size it to what you want it to display as) and resize it prior to uploading. It would've been really nice to have a "Large" option in the gallery...

I can poke lego but I can never remember a time when the gallery resized images, I think it always kept "full sized" as the original... so what's there is I think unfortunately what's available :/

You may be right. Nevermind... I think the images I'm getting will do just fine. Thanks RiTides!
