My little brothers FEC abhorrant archregent has an ability to go first in the combat phase due to the gristlegore command trait savage strike. This command trait says the general fights before the players pick any other units. My question is on his turn does that mean he will get to fight with his archregent and then immediately pick a second unit to fight with or does the archregent count as his first pick for that phase? I am leaning towards yes he does but i cannot find written proof for the other players in my path to glory campaign.

Thanks for any replies

You dont pick the unit, so it doesnt count as their pick. So yes, if it's the FEC player's turn they attack with the model with the trait, and then can immediately fight with another unit.

It would actually be a pretty awful trait otherwise, seeing as it only activates on the charge!
