Hi all,

I have written up my thoughts on the new DropZone Commander re-release.

Good review. I found the background to be really engrossing.

There are scans of the books, including the fluff, on some of the Traditional Games discussion threads, but I’m not sure if I am allowed to link them here.

Oh really? Would be useful to see.

TTcombat should really do something official though. I don't want to buy a load of old rulebooks just for some fluff.

They probably will when they get on top of things. We haven't seen any completely new models for a while as they're busy recreating the moulds for the existing stuff (they didn't get them all during the Hawk > TT transfer), then it's Behemoths and other stuff IIRC.

Some of the rule books show up heavily discounted sometimes, and I think TTC had some cheap ebook versions for sale when the new edition dropped...but for now they seem to be quietly allowing the scans to exist for the Chan community. Again, I’m not sure how Dakka feels about me directing you there, but I googled Dropfleet Traditional Games and found much of the Reconquest Phase 2 fluff right away.

The old starter set included the full Dropzone rulebook to hook aspiring players, so if I was in your shoes and I had bought the new starter set, I wouldn’t feel guilty for looking at the first edition book for inspiration.

Not too much time ago I've purchased the deluxe hardcover rulebook for something like 4 pounds.

IMO the books are worth it just for the background, it's an interesting setup and well written. The progression from one book to another is good to follow. Dropzone is one of those games that I rarely get to play but love to follow it's development and the models are a joy to paint.

it's the quiet ones you have to look out for. Their the ones that change the world, the loud ones just take the credit for it.

Glad everybody enjoyed my writeup! I sometimes see the books going up on ebay for pretty good prices so I may buy some for the pictures and lore.

The re-launch certainly hasn't been covered in many social media realms or online. I dropped a comment on your blog, good work Will. I hope they get some more press to keep their head above water with this new edition. I may see if friends are interested.

The re-launch has tickled my fancy... are there any "how to play" or battle report vids out there?

There are some older ones on youtube, not many since the game didn't hit a critical mass for that the first time around.

Mmm, I have spoken to TTC about the lack of videos online and they have expressed an interest at doing it at some point but Covid has set everything back. That also includes the new starter sets for the resistance and PHR, both of which already have their mini commanders.

The resistance have this cool little hovercraft and the PHR have a flying commander.

For thouse that are inntrested, they have released rules for a mini game spin off; Flightwing Commander.
Basicly it is a minigame for the flyers only. Apparently a game should take no longer then 15-20 mins.

Rules in the links below.

I wish I could find more folks to play this with in my area but folks seem more interested in DFC than this. It's sad but as much as I want to play this game I don't see it going anywhere atm.
