I just read the Warhammer Community article about the new Crusade system.

A question: I wonder if we can mix Crusade and Narrative? I'd like to have a more flexible starting army whose size is more in line with whatever story I can come up with.

Are you asking if you're allowed, in the privacy of your home/hobby club/LGS, to deviate from the exact rules of the Crusade system?

...Why not?

Thanks! But what I mean is that, it would be awesome if there's a variant of the Crusade system where the rules are more flexible in terms of starting army size. Would be more awesome if GW can provide that rather than me just deviating from the rules and coming up with something that might or might not be insanely unbalanced to play.

You could always scale it. Say if the force you wanted to start with was roughly double size, then you could double the size/points achieved and such to scale it. If you want just a larger starting force, say 750 rather than 500, just see to it that your opponent has something roughly equal.

Did you have anything particular in mind?

I doubt GW will actually give us variations, but who knows.

<Dynasty> ~10500pts
War Coven of the Coruscating Gaze ~3000pts
Thrice-Damned Plague Corps ~3250pts
Admech (TBN) ~3500pts +30k Bots and Ulator

As I understand it, Crusade IS a new narrative system.

I'd say they're highly compatible. Crusade does not specify which missions to use in your games, and what was known as narrative play up until now was mostly a collection of missions.

Having said that, there is a Crusade Mission Pack, and the missions it contains will be designed specifically for the new edition, specifically for the various sizes of game AND specifically for Crusade style play (ie. escalation campaign style), so the question then becomes: Were the old Narrative missions so good that you would prefer them to the Crusade Pack?

Other elements of Narrative, specifically the Streets of Death campaign system may even still work- Cityfight, not so much, since it was mostly additional rules for cover, which is getting an overhaul in 9th.

From what I’ve seen it looks like this won’t be a problem. Crusade is the new narrative play style I think, but there’s nothing stopping you coming up with your own missions, or future chapter approved ones getting released.

On the community page they’ve said that if you’re playing power level ( the recommended way for crusade) then the number of CPs you each get is based on the total PL of both armies, not each individually. This looks like the system is set up to allow for mismatched forces. You want a scenario where a defender has 30 PL and the attacker has 70 PL, then you get the CPs for a 100 PL battle.

Oh gawds I forgot about this thread. My apologies guys.

Thanks for the input about it being scalable and flexible. I'll pore over the rules this weekend and see what I can come up with.
