So got 2 questions that kind of go hand in hand.

Firstly, does Stormhost Silver need a bit more TLC than other paints? I find these separate very quickly and trying to restore them a nightmare. I have a small ceramic bead acting as an agitator but still doesnt seem to help.

Also is there a good way to get a purple gem effect similar to the current gem paints? I'm looking to do some purple gems for my Realm-Lords but unsure how to go about it. Mixing the blue and red gem paints didn't give the result I hoped for. I've tried doing contrast/washes on storhost silver in the past to very meh results.

Any advice is appreciated

Look for a candy paint in purple (I think greenstuff world does them) as they are intended for use over a metallic paint. Can't say I've had any problems with stormhost silver, it still feels like a godsend after years of runefang.
