A while back i bought what i thought was the first of multiple Primus Redoubts to be the super heavy accompaniment to my imperial militia.
Then the first arrived i got really annoyed by the fact the roof and all the stuff on it were all sagging downward.
My original plan was to cut up the tile and re-mount the building on a base so it would not only fit inside a 12" deployment area but also avoid the 'what counts as part of the building' thing, but with its sagging i couldn't justify the effort.
So i got a copy of solidworks and started to draw the components so i could print them off on 3d printers i had access to (my own anycubic i3 mega s and an anycubic photon s) and leave the tile in one peice.
Part of the idea was that i could upload the files so anyone else who wanted to could print their own bunker for gaming use could, but i'm starting to think that most of these were bought to provide a TBTLD for a Reaver Titan Carapace Weapon. And they are
OOP now too.
I got to the point of drawing the gun deck and then it started to dawn on me that i was enjoying digitizing the Primus Redoubt and i might enjoy doing the classic Rhino APC shapes too.
After a while i also figured that there are a lot of old kits missing bits from the years of (
ab)use and this is the right time for a fan initiated resource where a missing part could be downloaded and printed to complete old or
OOP models that are missing bits.
There is another angle i quite liked to this - a bunch of old
FW models were made from molds which were made from a master model which might not exist anymore and the design can be reverse engineered and preserved: another angle is do
GW still have the mold for the plastic mk1 rhino or land raider? Unlikely; and even if they do it's probably not usable in the modern machines.
Here's where i got to with the Primus Redoubt Bunker Complex so far (some detailing for the roof, door opening systems, bunker details, an external fan unit and the main door entryway guide light tracks left to go) (oh and i suppose the Barricade/trench wall sections at the back)
I did the detail on the wall tops seperate (i think they are 'tensioners' or i think thats what they are intended to represent - a bit like the 'molecular bonding studs' on space marine armour) so they could be printed on a resin printer and fitted to the main pieces done on an FDM.

So, yeah. I'll update this thread when i'm fully done with the Primus Redoubt files - i'm also doing an adaption of the design which would, you know, WORK in real life... .....with overhangs to cover entrances and not facing door openings toward expected incoming fire, and maybe,
just maybe;
not positioning the complexes air conditioning system on the top of the building in plain view
