Just seen this upcoming Kickstarter product on my local gaming venues Facebook page (the video was filmed there) and thought it was a great product (even if not for me personally) and many might be interested in it!!

Pop up wargaming terrain tiles that can be set up in seconds....

Wow, I was skeptical but that video really sells me on it! I have never had room for storing or transporting terrain... what a genius idea!

I wish I could copy the video here, but it only works for ones hosted on Youtube. Here's a direct link to the post with the video:

I think so long as they can sell the durability of the pop up features I can foresee this funding and getting a LOT of money. It's a really simple idea and heck I remember when GW games came with card terrain that you slotted together. The idea of a pop-up table is very neat for getting the big terrain features down on the table and transported easily.

Is this a First Created project, or have the fulfilled other KS's before? TIA!

The terrain is made of multiple boards, so should be usable on a variety of table sizes.

Sure wish someone would make a fantasy town or other ruins for fantasy skirmish games, but I'm guessing they may be a bit more difficult to design?

Hi, my name is Luke and I am the creator of the Upzone pop-up terrain. Thanks for all the support! Just wanted to jump in and answer a few questions about the project, feel free to ask if you have any more

The pop-ups are very durable for card terrain, they are made using a dense packaging grade material and laminated. The structures are designed to hold the weight of models. Basically if you can put it on there it will hold it, though I have to say I didn't have any giant 1980's metal bricks lying around when doing this!

This specific board is only the first step, and I am hoping if this project is funded to have a business offering a whole range of boards, with different themes, sizes and game systems covered. Fantasy villages, ruins, forests, mars, moon and egypt is all stuff I would love to work on next.

My vision with this project has been about practical, affordable terrain. I have a small house and a toddler myself so I had to get rid of my boards and scenery a long time ago but still wanted to be able to play games! This Kickstarter will be going live in September and I am aiming for the whole box set to cost around £100 based on conversations with suppliers so far. This is the first Kickstarter project I have done, however I have been working as a designer for 10 years so delivering this project successfully is something I am well equipped to do.

In case you want to see the main video is on youtube, just search Upzone (I cant post the link as I just set up this account, I was sure I had one from years ago but I couldn't find it!). I will also be keeping the facebook page up to date with project information as I go

Adrift within the vortex of my imagination.

OK, I am impressed. Have a lot of gaming terrain materials and do not need this, but will likely back anyway. Thanks for the heads up.

n'oublie jamais - It appears I now have to highlight this again.

That looks pretty nifty, and if I was still playing 40k I'd probably jump on it in a heartbeat. Will certainly be keeping an eye out for future projects.

Stonehaven did popup hex terrain for RPG games years ago. I wonder if there are some reviews on that as while a different product (it's a print your self kit) it's similar enough to give people an idea of durability.

Yeah, it would be nice to have a 6' x 4' option, or something that that space in multiples of (x).

Still, maybe as a stretch goal or future project if this one does well enough.

This concerns me, as I need to know when plonking down my big ol' metal mordor troll that the cardboard isn't going to sag or tear. What's the weight limit from testing on the buildings?

Are there many Mordor trolls in bombed out gothic-future cityscapes?

Of course this new set is far more suitable in style and scale for 40K. I think they look good, I'll be following this project with interest!

Ill go into a bit of detail on this to hopefully answer your question. The structures will hold any plastic miniature you are able to reasonably fit on them. They will also hold most metal models. The nature of the way the buildings are designed to fold down means each walkway/platform has slightly different load bearing amounts as they are supported in different places to allow for the pop-up effect.

This project was a balancing act in material strength, structural strength and flexibility. There are certain structures that hold weight really well and could confidently hold the weight of a metal troll, but I couldn't use them every time or all the buildings would look the same. I had to find a card material that is very strong and dense, but also able to be folded down flat, and not have the creases tear over time. So the card couldn't be too thick or too thin. I looked into using a combination of materials to make the structure, but it adds significant cost/risk to the production, though I havent discarded this option for the future. I feel I have got the balance right for this product but there will be limits to any material.

Price wise we are looking around the £100 mark.

I am hoping to do many more themes and sizes in the future so keep an eye out if this is successful.

Can see these guys making a killing on the tournament scene.
Have the boards been designed with any of the missions in mind?

It looks like most have the fold in the middle like a book, I wonder if is it possible to make a version where the two sides fold in from the edge - e.g. a 12x12" base and two 6"x12" flaps if it was on a foot square?

Something to break the terrain up a little from largely being something in the centre of a square/on a grid when combined with other tiles. And with a lot of the mission using a slightly off grid objective placing scheme, it'd mean there was cover for the zig-zag objectives and things like Retrieval.
