Hey guys and gals. I’m wondering where one should start for campaign books and rule books. I got a box full of models which have horse men, orcs, and some elves so I will likely have 800-1000 points. So all I have is models, minas tirith terrain and lots of 40k terrain that will work as ruins.

Thank you. Any help and direction for rules, books, campaign books will help greatly

Depending on the models you have and the armies you want to run, you'd get the best value from the Pelennor starter box. So if you want Rohan or Mordor as you'll get two playable armies and the rulebook and you'll be able to get it on discount from third parties.

In terms of rulebooks, it will depend on the army you run. If it's from Lord of the Rings, you'll want that book and the same for The Hobbit. In terms of supplements, i wouldn't worry about it if you're just starting out. They only tend to contain 1 or 2 new profiles. So i'd just focus on the core books for now.

You need the main rulebook.

Then depending on your models, pick one that you want to focus on building and then buy the rulebook that the force is in (either Armies of the Hobbit or Armies of the Lord of the Rings). Be aware that stock is limited on GW's site so you may have to hunt on eBay to complete your force.

The rest of the rulebooks can wait unless you are looking for a specific list.

From there, I would suggest the Battle Companies book. This is a fun campaign mode that doesn't require a lot of models and is a good way to get other people into the game.

I play:
40K: Daemons, Tau
AoS: Blades of Khorne, Disciples of Tzeentch
Warmachine: Convergence of Cyriss
Infinity: Haqqislam, Tohaa
Malifaux: Bayou
Star Wars Legion: Republic & Separatists
MESBG: Far Harad, Misty Mountains

Hey guys. For a rule book I see there are ones that are just lord of the rings and ones that are lotr and middle earth. Are there big differences, is it worth going for the most up to date one?

No, don't use that one. It's basically 20 years out of date. While the basis of the rules are the same, they've been tweaked and adjusted a fair amount over the years.

You'll want this one (which comes in the Pellenor box)

and either this https://www.games-workshop.com/en-GB/Armies-Of-The-Lord-Of-The-Rings-2018-eng or this

https://www.games-workshop.com/en-GB/Armies-Of-The-Hobbit-Sourcebook-2018-eng

depending on the army you actually want to play.

My wife and I found that using the Battle Companies skirmish book very useful for introducing us to the game without overloading us with big armies right off the bat.
