I was wondering if anyone successfully modeled word bearers Horus heresy armies in a format that seamlessly transfers to a 40k word bearers chaos space marine list? I mean would a typical word bearers HH army with the typical texts and geometric shapes inscribed on their armor fit in with 40k, or would they need to be modeled with impurity seals or would the lack or presence of spiky bits And generic chaos iconography exclude them from one Setting or the other?

Word Bearers are probably the easiest of the Traitor Legions to fit into both eras. The geometric shapes work just as well in 40k as they do in 30k.

CSM kits fit the Word Bearer aesthetic in 30k as well, especially as they go deeper in the Heresy. Adding some spikes to vehicles, especially with trophies is perfect in 30k. Mixing in some CSM bits is perfect for the 30k Word Bearers as well. Using a Chaos character is great in 30k. They can be a Sorcerer, Chaplain or Diabolist. Possessed work well as Gal Vorbak as they’re basically the same thing. The Gal Vorbak models just look much cooler IMHO.

Word Bearers were secretly Chaos Marines for four decades before the Heresy. They were far gone well before they revealed themselves. By mid to late Heresy era, all bets were off.

The major difficulty is that the things that are good in 30k (FW vehicles, basic CSM units) are frequently not the things that are good in 40k (Nurgle deathstars, Daemon Princes).
