A while ago I set about making a fandex based on the series Gundam Wing. I set up the story so it was based on a Tau colony fleet conquering a human sub-sector, which was promptly isolated from both the Empire and the Imperium. Over time, the Tau had died out, but the humans had kept some of their technology and configured it to their stylings. Needless to say, if I wanted to model some of these units, I would have to do a lot of kit bashing.

For one of the core Troop units I was planning on taking Crisis Suits, removing their Jet Pack Vents and putting more human arms and legs on them. These would be grounded battlesuits. At the time I was contemplating using Terminators, but since then the Primaris have come out, I'm wondering if they would suit them better (no pun intended). The Gravis legs might be what I need, but I'm wondering if Tacticus limbs could work as well.

Thoughts on if this would work or if something would work better?

I’m not sure if this helps, but back in 3rd edition, there was an article in white dwarf about the Gue’vesa. Imperial Guard troops left behind during a retreat from some battle. They were given a choice... fight for tau or die. It gave rules & point values for using them in a tau army. I kit bashed fire warrior & Catachan bits. They were a decent meat shield for the point cost

Crisis suits are much bigger then any human infantry you are going to find for parts. You are better off looking for actual mech toys at that scale.

These are my opinions. This is how I feel. Others may feel differently. This needs to be stated for some reason.

There is the size of a crisis suit next to a marine.

I used some Gundam Converge toys, converted with Tau weapons and bits for Kill Team a while back. These are not mine, but it was the direct inspiration

I wasn't too concerned about the regular Infantry as the Fire Warriors and IG are close enough in size to work together for the most part. It was when I started to go bigger because:

That is the concern, along with getting accepted as there is one GW store closest to me, but 2 LGS and a brand new LGS a bit farther out. Most of my meta is pretty chill so long as the conversions look good, but the GW stores are questionable.

That does look amazing. A little more than I had in mind, but still well done.

And a Terminator as well. At best it would be hands added to the current arms and everything below the knees from the terminator used where the chicken legs start. How do the Primaris compare to the Terminators? I haven't been to the store with both represented side by side when I did manage to go, and very little table use is going on at present anyways.
