Hey again, I did one of these for 40k so I thought I may as well do it for AoS too

Anyways, I was curious what kind of armies you guys played and why you chose them! It can be for any reason, either lore, gameplay, or just because you think they look nice

I chose Daughters of Khaine mostly because I just like their overall style, being fast, lethal, athletic and fanatical, it's going to sound really weird hahahaha but I also like the idea of them going in, in their normal clothes/armour and just coming out bathed in blood from head to toe. Something about them is just really cool, so I guess these are mostly for lore as well as playstyle and because the models look cool

Sylvaneth I just really like because of the whole forest/life theme, haven't actually had a chance to play them yet, but I just like their style Basically just because pretty forest stuff xD

And Lumineth mainly just cause I love elves and they fit the whole high elf theme, and the models look really nice!

So, let me know what you guys think

A long time ago I had decided that I liked chaos, but wanted to theme it around one of my two favorites; Nurgle or Khorne. I ended up choosing Nurgle because I enjoy a defensive style more than offensive, and I like having access to magic. I have started and sold many armies since then but always maintained a Nurgle force.

Back when silver tower came out, i ended up really liking the little scuttle goblins with eight limbs. So much so that ended up getting a bunch of extra ones from trades and such.

After a while i just basically realized that "oh yeah, i guess i have goblins now" and that became gloomspite once that book came out. They aren't "official" but i like 'em.

Ogres, cause they play like heavy cavalry army, have very little in way of fiddly aura abilities to remember and very few models while not being as exhausting to paint as large monsters.
Idoneth cause i like the underwater theme and hard-hitting fast units. And elves.

I often wanted to make a nature themed wood elf army; even bought some models toward it. But it was at a phase where I wasn't playing much and to top it off GW never really pushed the animal side hard; a few stags here and there a few eagles in metal. But they never really pushed it. I got excited again when the new deer riders came out, but again it was a tease more than a full army like that.

High Elves were the same and after a few revampes right before Old World ended they had lion chariots and flaming birds in the skies. Many models were bought and - then GW kicked the carpet out and ended Old World and the start of AoS - bitter feelings another army in the box it went*.

So for a large part I ignored AoS.
Yet AOS started to improve, it started to come together = GW itself started to wake up and change. Then there was this teaser

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PlQqri1FuRQ

Then this

Metal, Aelves, blood, winged harpies, medusa, more blood and a freaking what the heck is that dragon serpent beast at the end.

Basically a whole lot of YES. A fast hitting, close combat focused army of lithe bloody death. A fantastic slew of new models yet with some distinct greek mythology influences. A whole army of dancing warriors, the kind that don't wear armour and balance on a knife-edge to battle their foes. Basically a whole lot of extreme cool ideas all bundled up in perhaps still the most expensive army to field in terms of cost for models. I didn't care - it was awesome. It was also seeing AOS become a real game; real Battletomes; real rules; real endless spells (new ideas!). All building with a huge amount of GW's new attentive marketing.

Yep I grasped the bait and was taken hook and all!

*Happy end to the story was a few years later selling on the HE stuff at a good sale price without being greedy on out-of-production models and being able to turn that money into a nice start for Ossiarch Bonereapers!

When I started AoS, I did so alone, without there being a local community for playing it. I started off with Sylvaneth, after quite a bit of reseach. I loved the look of High Elves and Dark Elves and Wood Elves, but, at that time in AoS, they were all dumpsterfires and basically unplayable. So, I went with the next best thing, in terms of look and playstyle. Nature? Check. Tricky movement garbage, and fairly defensive? Check.

Had fun building and painting them. Then, I started building up the community, putting out feelers on various social media, building up a nice group in my town. Someone got in to Stormcast (because of course) and with my army ADHD, I helped him along by getting in to Khorne with starter box sets and so on. Ended up selling Khorne because I found them boring.

Community starts growing up to 10 or so people games are happening on the regular a year or so after starting the group. I get in to Skaven because their entire everything is just fantastic to me. Love the lore, love the look, love the playstyle (Skryre as the backbone, with clanrat chaff, and other cool toys to mix it up).

Ossiarchs look cool, I build them, have a good time, but often have to shelf them since it's difficult to power that army down.

New Chaos Warriors and book come out. I buy in, get tired of painting and playing them quickly, and sell them off. I think I might just hate the traditional Chaos stuff, it seems.

Lumineth comes out! High Elves! But actually playable! Finally, I've come full circle to what I originally wanted to play in AoS!

Skaven - 4500
OBR - 4250
- 6800

I initially was one of the few people in my gaming group who only played 40k and didn't have an AoS army. I figured I should get one so I could play either.

I initially thought about going with Seraphon, but held off initially. The Ossiarch Bonereapers were released, and I initially sent for them, but I ended up way overcomplicating my paint scheme.

I decided to settle the issue by playing Total War Warhammer II, and found I indeed enjoyed the Lizardmen, so I bought an army.

Wrist problems mean I have to pay someone to assemble them. Painting will be slow until recovery, but Contrast paints are a godsend in this regard.

When more space is available, I may go back to Bonereapers so long as I can convince myself out of doing an overly complicated paint scheme. As I apparently beat the recent plague without knowing, Skaven are another possibility, if they're easy enough to paint quickly.

Seraphon: Because I love everything mesoamerican (mainly Aztec) culture. And dinosaurs.. So Aztec Lizards riding Aztec Dinosaurs was just a huge win for me. Their lore in AoS have always been sort of interesting, the first battletome was abit all over the place, but interesting nonetheless. However, the second tome was a huge hit! Both the Starborne and Coalesced are very interesting aspects of the overall factions.

Fyreslayers: Always loved the original Slayers from WHFB, so when an army consisting entirely of Grimnir worshipping Slayers, I was hooked. I love their zeal, and drive to gather Ur-gold, even taking them to siding with unlikely factions, all because of the overwhelming goal of getting their shattered God back.

well they are not overdramaticly powerfull, fair chunk of wounds plus regen ability means like every other elite army, the weakness is objective controll while your opponent have to fokus to take one down.
Kinda the good thing about gloomspite gits, one faction, so many ways to play them.

I stopped for now at 1000p, so that means an aleguzzler and 2 goblin wizzards are in there, while the rest is just trolls. I havent made up my mind yet if i want to add another 1000p of trolls or 1000p of squiggs for a more balanced force.

Stormcast: partly because I generally play 'evil' armies and fancied a change.

I have always loved the lore of Paladins in fantasy games. These guys really fit that vibe, and I love the inversion of the Chaos ascension idea. "You were a hero in life? Great, you have to do it for eternity. No you don't get a choice."

Another big factor is that they are the poster boys. Huge selection of models, regular updates, etc. As inhave a knack of playing armies that don't get updated very often, it's a nice change.

Daughters of Khaine. Evil Aelves FTW. My favourite fantasy trope by far. Started with Drow back in my DnD days...over thirty years ago!

Daughters combine amazons, religion, evil elves, Ray Harry Hausen movies ...basically the formative things of my youth.

Bonesplitters: First and foremost i adore the sculpts. They just lift my spirits to look at.

Wanted a horde army, and Destruction was very poorly represented in my area and cost wise the kits.are very reasonably priced for all the options you get with them. Plus boars are cool!

I would play Soulblight (big fan of vampires) but firstly I need to get the above three painted up! Hopefully there will be some new Soulbight models by then.

KO for the theme. Their design pulled me back into AoS/Fantasy after dropping the game after the death of WHFB. Airship dwarves with weird techy guns was the uniqueness the dwarf line needed in Fantasy to shake up the boring gun line.

Khorne because I liked the models from Underworlds and the models were dirt cheap, being packaged in starter sets people chased for the Stormcast.

IDK, always wanted an all cavalry army but in WHFB I didn't like the factions that could pull it off well. With the fish elves it is an effective enough army and I love the combination of elegance and brutality that the models exhibit (well other than the turtle).

I went with Idoneth as my first real(no pun intended here) dive into an army for Age of Sigmar. I'd mucked about with warbands and the like, but Idoneth really caught my attention. The lore behind them is fantastic.

Lumineth have likewise caught my attention.

I just started AoS and it was a hard decision between Legions of Nagash (because I have always loved undead and in extension vampires) but i decided to hold out on this in hopes of a soulblight revamp or a new vampire faction(vampire coasts please) / Seraphon (dinos on dinos nuff said) / Skaven (Eshin in particular drew me in as ninja rats but they are poorly fleshed out in models thus far).

While pondering for months before committing, Sons of Behemat came to light as I jumped in as my first army. Few models and all huge center pieces means they make for great display and easy gameplay though i suspect i will lose 95% of games. They should be relatively easy to complete army wise since there is not much variance and i have already started considering a 2nd army. (Vampires / Dark Aelves which ever gets the update first if ever ahahah)

Empire and Ogres are my two main WHFB armies. I usually build my armies based on used minis I'll buy in lots on Ebay, as a result I have a bunch of random minis for both armies lying around I have no use for.

Decided to use them for AoS and ended up with a Mawtribe and Cities of Sigmar army out of it.

I don't know. I would think tortoises would be more in keeping with the Bonereapers, personally.

I went with Ossiarch Bonereapers because the models are quite striking, the rules are good, painting all of the glowy souls on some of the units sounded fun, and Super Skeletor.

Though, I already have a feeling I may start a Flesh Eater Courts army because the lore is so good.

I never played Warhammer Fantasy, but I did play 2nd edition 40k. There, I played Night Lords and Thousand Sons, and always loved the Tzeentch lore and feel. So, when I did pick up AoS, shortly after the first General's Handbook, it was of course Disciples of Tzeentch (well, Chaos at that point but all Tzeentch). All part of the plan.

I was a big fan of the Old World lore, particularly the Elves, Lahmaian vampires, and Tomb Kings. I was especially dismayed when they destroyed the setting and ruined my favorite army. I had a Vampire Counts army based around Ulrika's books with human "mercenaries" in place of skeletons and several models for Ulrika herself. I didn't look at AoS for a long time though I did notice the Daughters of Khaine when they came out. DoK combine my affinity for elves and Morathi's lore with my fascination with lamia. I resisted for a bit until they came out with the second edition of the rules. I had purchased the original starter box back when AoS first released and promptly forgot about it when I decided it wasn't for me. I remembered liking the Khorne models as they give me a Conan vibe so I decided to make that my secondary army. That gives me one Order and one Chaos though I can't help but chuckle at Morathi being "good".

Gathering the Informations.

It's important to remember that "Order" is not about "Good".

It's about structure. It's about a stable society.

It's about bringing...order to the world. Idoneth are Order and they're soul-stealing raiders from the deep.
Lumineth are Order and they're Aelfs that are just reintroducing themselves to the world as part of Teclis' quest to bring stability back to the Realms and to fix holes in the fabric of reality. The first story we get in the Lumineth book is them burning a massive rune into a city to banish a Slaaneshi daemon incursion, trapping a large portion of the city inside.
