I'm burned out on straightforward armies, and was thinking of starting a guard with inquisition allies list to get a little zing back in the hobby.  The idea is to load up with wonderful toys (like Batman ), effectiveness will be an afterthought.

Anyone have any good advice on the following choices?  Something I am not considering, wonderful toys I haven't included!?

Inquisition forces:

Inq lord: liber heresius (choose table edge, instead of rolling for it), psychic hood

--Heavy bolter shooty retinue

Callidus

2 x 10 sisters, 2 x melta, vet superior, book of Ld9 for everyone

8 seraphim, 2 x flamer, vet superior, eviscerator, book of Ld9 for everyone

Imperial Guard forces: (Drop troops, Cameoline, Veterans, Grenadiers, Heavy weapon platoons)

Command HQ: 4 x flamer, deepstrike (kamikaze bandannas?)

2 x 10 veteran: 3 x plasma, 1 x autocannon.  1 officer carries Macharian cross (redeploy a unit within 6" up to 12" before game starts.  So you can utilize pushback with a heavy weapon squad, without throwing it to the wolves. In theory)

2 x 8 Grenadier: 2 x plasma

Heavy weapon platoon:

--HQ 4x flamer, deepstrike

--2 x Autocannon teams

--1 x Lascannon or missile team.

2 x Basilisk: Indirect (where does he get such wonderful toys?)

I was also thinking about maybe ditching some of the doctrines for Abhuman and Afriel Strain troops, does anyone know if this is extremely un-kosher with inquisition allies?

No afriel strain with inquisition allies, specifically forbidden.

Afriel is out then, there's too much fun stuff in the inquisition to drop all of it.

Love it! I'd trade the grenadiers for more guard though - your sisters are filling the same role, but much better. And it's hard to argue with boots-on-the-ground, a lot of power-armored ld 9 bubbles, and artillery

I want to do a simmilar list, but I'm thinking about using Witch hunters as the base list. You trade in some of the guard options for more assassins, more seraphim, the cannoness, and orbital strike (now useful w/ CoD, imho) - but seeing this makes me think about change my mind!

How many points?

1850 is my target at the moment. I think 2 platoons could fit in the place of the grenadiers at 2k.

More seraphim and faith would be awesome from the Inquisition as a main force, as the guard as main variant stands there are only 3 faith points just to be sneaky with.

Dude I'd ditch the flamers and deep strike from the command squad of the heavy weapons platoon. 40 points is an excellent sacrificial push-back unit - and if the vets end up within 6" of the heavy weapons to push them back then how are they going to retreat? My temptation with multiple Macharian Crosses is Conscripts - a nice big unit you can leapfrog along your lines.

When soldiers think, it's called routing.

Good point wight, I hadn't considered the command section for pushback, and I think you are right that it would be more effective than loading a macharian on the vets. I would keep the flamers on the HQ though for the other half of the games where I get 2nd deployment. Even as a sacrificial unit, a 64 point squad with 4 flamers might see some action on the front line.

The problem with push back units is that they more or less need to be from the heavy support section of the list (unless of course you dont' have any heavy support). This is due to the fact that heavy support deployes first in every setup order I've ever seen. With this being the case, push back units that are not heavy support will already be pushed back by the enemy before they can deploy.
