So with Sisters being the current Word bearers/Heralds of a new Edition, I have seen nothing that says GW plans to change this special faction trait of theirs, which leads me to the next question:

Will GW release new Sisters rules for 9th, or at the first wave of the next edition? There are hints of a new faction on the way in 9th, and I don't see 9th unveiling their new codex's with any great haste given the new set of Lockdowns on the horizon. I just wonder if GW will make it's hot new faction wait another 3 years for rules, or will they piece meal them out in WD, FAQs/CAs? I don't see us getting out of codex's for Space Marines (Spikey and non) before 2021, and even then we still have Custodes, AM, Orks, Tau. Eldar good, Eldar bad, Daemons, Ad Mech, Knights, Chaos Knights, Nids, GSC, Harlequins. Given that we might see 2 codexes every 2-3 months, that will puts them in 2022 before we get to Sisters.

Will GW break the cycle and release new Sisters dex's before the latest edition turns 3?

We know they're getting at least one new unit (the Palatine) so I'd expect them sooner rather than later.

Well, they've got one of the new teased models, so probably sooner rather than later, but then again I have no idea.

I wouldn't be in a rush to get a new book if I were you. The sisters book is currently great already. . .

this, the current sisters codex is amazing, unless sisters get a massive rush of new units, I'd be quite content with the current codex rather then risk having a "less good" codex that has a few crusade rules tossed in.

Right with you in the worry that they will take what I love and destroy it.

However, I need that bespoke Crusade content. Desperately. I found the Crusade content in the Deathwatch supplement to be pretty decent, and I can hardly wait to see what ours looks like. Everyone had asked for a generic Living Saint unit. Just imagine one that you build yourself over time. Imagine taking the Penitent Oat and becoming Repentia as a battle scar. Imagine earning Repentance and returning to the Emperor's light as a battle honour.

Every day that passes without this content is a day that the greatest, holiest tales of the Imperium go untold.

And so I am willing to risk the Codex I love for what may await us beyond the horizon.

The Emperor protects.

Hopefully not. It would be a mistake just like releasing the Death Guard codex so early is.

Books that need help should ideally be released first (I'll make an exception for Space Marines simply by virtue of them being by far the best-selling army).

Yes, specifically because the current dex is amazing. If it was terrible it wouldn't be replaced for 20 years but because it's a great book it'll be gone in 6 months for something asinine.

All they need to do is reprint the book as is with the Palantine and Crusade rules and it would be one of the best codex releases in the entirety of 9th. Instead they'll screw up acts of faith again and decide that the only viable strategy sisters should have is an infantry bubble slog like was the case in the beta codex.

Given that the Death Guard Codex is one of the oldest ones still around, I don't see how releasing a new one now could be considered a mistake.

As for Sisters, right now they're lacking any Crusade Content. What they really need to do is have a Crusade section in the next Chapter Approved as a 'Get You Buy' for all the Codices that don't have one yet, a bit like CA2017 had with giving each Codex-less army a Warlord Trait, Relic and a couple of Strats.

Bluntly, because as old as it is Death Guard work just fine right now, as opposed to Thousand Sons who have pretty much no value outside of souping and not even very much of that.

There are armies that need an update far more than Death Guard, like Thousand Sons, Genestealer Cults, Drukhari, Aeldari, and Astra Militarum.

it's possiable sisters will get a codex early in 9th and the 8th edition codex was almost a trial run to test and refine. but yeah If sisters have to get a 9th edition codex I'd be fine if it was basicly their 8th edition codex with some crusade rules and a new toy or two.

They previewed the model in full so it'll be likely due for release within 12 months and new models usually equals new book. However since we've already got 3 9th codex and unless 10th ed is next year, your statement is impossible.

In case you've missed the trend, the Sisters are generally the last codex of an edition. You see the Sisters, you know the editions about to flip.
And they've never been the first Codex of an edition.

true although sisters have until now had a old line of metal models. we're in a brand new era now that they have plastics

The sisters are in that odd spot of having a recent release, a decent codex, and actually not all that much in the way of new units - named characters aside you wouldn't be leaving anything on the shelf if you decided to play 3rd edition with the range.

But i'm not going to hold my breath, gaps in the marine release schedule appear to be few and far between - especially if GW decide to try and cram books for the last two chaos gods into the mix. Ongoing covid might see a few more one-off models though.

Sisters also see new edition design before the new edition. (At least with Witch Hunters and the new codex) So I'd argue they in some sense, the first Codex of the next edition.

How's so? SOB 8e codex was 8e codex. It's hardly 9e in mind. Too much rules that don't work in 9e. No core rules. Mono bonus which suits more 8e that didn't have mono bonus in core rules than 9e where core rules already encourage staying mono and thus having it in codex makes no sense.

WH was solidly 3rd repentia with not quite FnP, sisters with not quite stubborn, etc. All pre-4e USRs and nothing like the 5e crons with rules and options that suddenly made sense with the next edition.
And the 5e Sisters were so 5th edition that Cruddace forgot to change the cost of the command squad while copy/pasting it from the marine book :p

But being an edition behind is fine, at this point the faction would benefit more from filling out rather than another update to the units from two decades ago. Another troops choice perhaps, or a return of the ecclesiarchy.

I am pretty sure the previewed HQs are for new Patrol / Starter-boxes that will be released with new Codexes in early 2021.

- Death Guard (coming 2020 already)
- Sisters
- AdMech
- Orks
- Dark Eldar

If they were to release a new Sisters Codex in January 2021, the 8th Edition Sisters Codex still would've been valid for longer than the 2.0 Space Marine Codex was

100% we will. They'll want to take advantage of their popularity to put the Crusade system in their book. Will probably happen alongside the Palatine

Sisters are also one of the few armies without their new "build-your-own-subfaction-system". Presumably, they'll also get the Core/not-Core treatment, faction-specific secondaries, etc.. if that's a standard going forward.

There will be a 9th Edition Codex, if only to put in the Palatine and Crusade rules. We know the model is coming out soonish, so I expect a new codex no later than June 2021.

A pity. I barely got to play my codex before COVID got in the way.

I really hate to ask, but has anyone side by sided the exact codex release schedule of 8th, against the known releases of 9th? It's pretty different. By this time in 8th, we already had most of the Imperium, but now GW is treating suppliments as full codexes, so I can't really say what will happen.

I would argue that this is a good time to release a sister's codex. Most of their rules and interactions are pretty healthy in 9th, so it would just be a lift-n-shift job with adding the Crusade content and matched play secondaries.

They could easily update those rules and just pull everything else forward, and devote more cycles to a codex in need of more attention. Easy win, low hanging fruit, whatever you want to call it. In the end, though, it could just buy them a little time in the release cycle to spend on the books that need a lot more work (thus more time to develop).

That'd be in an optimal world, though, where things are done for logical reasons and the outcomes made sense. If we stick to tradition... yeah, 2 years to go!
