Okay I’ve got a job interview and this is going to be on Teams. They’ve told me it’s a bad idea to use the existing work account I have which is my only experience of the app. So I went on my personal laptop and it’s not letting me download the teams app. When I am hitting download nothing is happening once the download completes. When I try logging on in the web browser it wants me to enter business details and is pointing towards Skype if I say it’s for personal reasons.

Is Teams Skype? Did the job agent simply mean use your Skype account and if I am sent an invite for teams will it link to my Skype account automatically? Are they different and I need to subscribe to something to get Teams for personal use on a laptop. Also, does teams have to be on an outlook email as I mostly use a gmail account and those are the ones the recruitment agent has and will likely forward on to the job.

I am just not sure why the agent would say it’s a teams call if I would be using Skype if Teams is only for corporate organisations? I just don’t want to be downloading anything on the day of the interview.

Teams is the next incarnation of Skype for Business, but Skype for Business (& 'normal' Skype) still exist.

If they're sending you an invite email you can either run it in a browser or download the client from the invite. You don't need to sign-in, you can join as a guest.

So they send an email to my gmail account and it should auto download everything as a guest? Iam having to use a five year old cheap laptop and it’s a bit of a dinosaur so I wanted to avoid downloading things as much as possible. Things which should take seconds seem to take over a minute or can get lost in the ether. No idea why since there’s nothing on the laptop besides windows, antivirus and a few word documents. I think at some point I’ll just by a word only laptop and never hook it to the internet as these updates seem to just break the machine. But yeah, have to make do.

Is there any way of checking the settings in advance? I’d wanted to make sure all the audio/vid stuff worked beforehand. I just see the download being slow and then the audio not working. Just doesn’t look good.

You should be able to use Teams from your phone, if that's any easier.

This. My place refuses to allow us to install anything but Teams. When the staff complain, they get told to use the browser versions.

Yeah, if all else fails use the browser version, which will be linked in the e-mail invite. Given it's a MS product, Teams runs in Edge without any problems but I know it also works fine in relatively recent versions of Firefox and Chrome.
