Subject: Dakka Painting Challenge Round 72: February 2021: Showing Off
Welcome all to the 72nd round of the Dakka Painting challenge. For those who haven't seen the challenge before, it is a community-focused friendly competition open to anyone on the site, regardless of your skill level or experience. Every round contributes towards a League table, which ultimately means nothing but is a lot of fun to keep an eye on and jockey for position with Dakka's other painters.
Showing Off: Whether it is skill, proficiency or sheer strength, some warriors revel in displays of their talents. Your entry should feature models known for their pride and showiness.
How To Enter - You may enter up to 5 MODELS as a SINGLE ENTRY, and are permitted one entry per member per month. If you enter multiple models, they should ideally be related in some way, such as part of the same squad, unit or scene if you are doing a diorama - You MUST post a 'proof' picture of your entry in the thread of the state it was in before you started working on it; this must be either unassembled, unpainted, primed or coated a single colour. Entries that do not submit a valid Proof Picture will not be eligible for voting. - After this, you may post WIP pictures in this thread and your own if you wish, and on completing the entry, you may post up to 6 final pictures IN THIS THREAD that will then be used for voting. Please note that pictures in a montage or collage picture will be considered individual images for this purpose, so while these types of presentation are certainly acceptable, please keep the image limit in mind when compiling them. For example, a collage of 5 images and one separate image would count as your 6 picture allowance.
So What Do I Win? - Points... and points mean... bragging rights for the next month! Following the vote, points will be awarded to every entrant. This year, the Points you receive will be equal to the Percentage of Votes your entry receives in the final Voting thread; if you get 10%, you get 10 points, if you get 6% you get 6 points, so on and so forth.
These points will be used to form a league table, which will be updated month on month as the results come in.
How Long Do I Have? This challenge begins 1st of February and will end at midnight Eastern time on the 28th of February. After this, I shall compile the finished entries into a new thread, and voting will run for 5 days.

Not quite, instead he will be showing off all the fantastic gifts he was given by colleagues and enemies alike.
Such as;
A Guardian Spear (which I may convert to a Pyrithite Spear)
The Blade of Magnus
A Fenrisian Ale horn (with that rancid effluent replaced with something far more befitting a Chapter Master)
Blood Angels 2nd company banner ornament
And a vast array of other things which were totally gifts.

Hmm. I think some flashy lightsaber action is called for. Maul and Ahsoka, potentially a couple of flashy rebels too. That or fancy gunslingers for Shadows of Brimstone.

Not sure what I will enter in the end, but they all fit the theme very well. My "want to enter" is Eowyn, because it's the outfit she wears when showing off her sword skills in Meduseld (nearly hitting Aragorn, who in her defense, was creeping up on her ).

The biggest show-offs in the mortal realms. Introducing... The Dread Pageant! I've been procrastinating on this one, so may as well get it done this month.
@Viterbi: Do Eowyn! I love seeing people's Middle-Earth stuff, plus I have that model (not painted yet) myself so it would be cool to see someone else do it.
As for my own entry, I think Space Wolves fit the theme of guys who like to show off:
I'll be painting this five-man Intercessor Pack. It'll be a nice change from all the Dark Angels and bright yellow Sisters of Battle I've been painting recently.
My armies (re-counted and updated on 11/1/23, including modeled wargear options):
Dark Angels: ~15000 Astra Militarum: ~1200 | Adeptus Custodes: ~1900 | Imperial Knights: ~2000 | Sisters of Battle: ~3500 | Leagues of Votann: ~1200 | Tyranids: ~2600 | Stormcast Eternals: ~5000
Check out my P&M Blogs: ZergSmasher's P&M Blog | Imperial Knights blog | Board Games blog | Total models painted in 2023: 40 | Total models painted in 2024: 12 | Current main painting project: Dark Angels

Rybrook wrote: Oh noooo, I've been wanting to paint them for ages coincidentally Kal has a bit of a gap on the arm joint too, the glue just wouldnt hold.
Same on my model, I pinned it with a short piece of brass rod and some epoxy.
Nevelon wrote: I want to say more months than not we have people painting the same thing. But am not going to sift the archives to get hard numbers on that.
She's no Jedi, he's no sith.
And some more star wars stuff I printed, Chirrut and Baze. So that'll be the pool of this month's stuff. All flashy lightsabers and showt guardians (they are TOTAL show-offs )
Automatically Appended Next Post: I got excited and started painting Chirrut this morning

I already started a thread on these models (help with plastic sprues) as I can't even assemble them properly, so I doubt I'll be doing much "showing off". But it might provide some motivation to get the unit done before the end of the month.
As for the models themselves, they are Militarum Tempestus Scions. I don't think they think themselves as show-offs, but I am entering them on the basis that other troops think they are "show offs".
Militarum Tempestus Scions are often viewed with fear or resentment by the regular troops – nicknames such as ‘glory boys’ and ‘big toy soldiers’ are common.

Yassssssssssss dreadball! Technically one's an MVP, but she's (1) ridiculously out of print (2) really cool. Are you going to do her in her classic pink/white, new "Black Widow" scheme or something else entirely?

I knew Anne-Marie was OOP, but is she actually rare/sought after? I think I have one more somewhere...
I haven't really thought about it very much, but the pink/white color scheme feels a little too on-the-nose.
