Same as the subject but to clarify I'll give context. I collect Imperial Guard and like to have a varied army with many rare items just for fluff and fun. These could be rare vehicles or the original Gaunt's Ghosts boxset. So my question for you guys and gals is what is the most impressive or rarest thing you've ever seen or what is something you haven't seen but it would impress you? (Please try to keep it Guard centered) I highly encourage talking about any kind of model, for me the hardest thing to find would be a Macharius Omega. I can't wait to see what you guys have to say, thanks as always.

I don't get a hold of too many rare models exactly but I'd say ones I always respect are old Ogryns and Legit rough riders, they show you aren't just another Guard player but a player of high taste. I'd also say some of the first actual guard cadian infantry as well, they look ace.

As for my rarest model is one I got from a very good friend of the female commissar gamesday model that came out a long long time ago now. It's probably my center piece of the collection because it's old, and rare and was given with love and cost him a good amount as he also got it painted for me to surprise me, he's a hell of a good friend.

Rarest one I've seen would be the standard bearer variant available in the army box a while back. In hindsight it isn't actually that special, it's just Jarran Kell with a helmet and Chainsword.

As for rarest one I actually own, probably a Stormhammer. Got a good deal on one online, but probably won't see much use seeing as how GW nerfed it into oblivion.

I've got a handful of guard wounded and penal legionnaires from rogue trader, along with a guard land speeder. Honestly no idea why...

Rarest would be the early resin stormblade a friend picked up for free from a house move.

In terms of something i'd like to see - the anphelion base complex.

Years ago I got a pre-release Catachan Comms guy by chatting to one of the mail-order trolls when I placed an order.

Female Catachan with grenade launcher probably counts as rare.

I've gotten some interesting bits from ebay hauls over the years, I think I have the Female Commissar. Based on the fact that searching the net always shows me super old metal Ogryns or the new plastic ones, the metal Ogryn I have must have only been around for a short while.

Other than that all I got is the common sort of rare things - the old Stormtrooper models (and a bunch of Kasrkin waiting for me to decide on a paint scheme) - things that while getting rarer over time, are still fairly easy to find if you wait long enough.

rarest guard models I own are my vostroyans. I've got numerous sculpts that were oop even before the recent OOP-ing of all the range - casualties, the plasma gunner, mortar, lascannon, powerfist sergeant etc.

"Got you, Yugi! Your Rubric Marines can't fall back because I have declared the tertiary kaptaris ka'tah stance two, after the secondary dacatarai ka'tah last turn!"

"So you think, Kaiba! I declared my Thousand Sons the cult of Duplicity, which means all my psykers have access to the Sorcerous Facade power! Furthermore I will spend 8 Cabal Points to invoke Cabbalistic Focus, causing the rubrics to appear behind your custodes! The Vengeance for the Wronged and Sorcerous Fullisade stratagems along with the Malefic Maelstrom infernal pact evoked earlier in the command phase allows me to double their firepower, letting me wound on 2s and 3s!"

"you think it is you who has gotten me, yugi, but it is I who have gotten you! I declare the ever-vigilant stratagem to attack your rubrics with my custodes' ranged weapons, which with the new codex are now DAMAGE 2!!"

"...which leads you straight into my trap, Kaiba, you see I now declare the stratagem Implacable Automata, reducing all damage from your attacks by 1 and triggering my All is Dust special rule!"

I mean it's probably this guy, right?

Failing that it's either the Praetorian Guard casualties, or the Vostroyan casualties.

What about the Forgeworld metal Cadian (old Cadian) tank commander? With a hat and waving hand? I got that one, can take pictures if needed.

EDIT: or better yet, a picture from the internet

Not my work, but these metal imperial tank crew is the rares i've come by. Also there is a necromundan sniper that is actually a kneeling steel legion sculpt, wich sells really expensive at ebay.

I really love the turnout of answers and hope more come in. I feel like my rarest would be all the Gaunt's Ghosts or my Stormblade. I'm glad from some lots I've gotten the cadian tankers and rare commander but I prefer vehicles over infantry so I might really have rarer infantry models but I love my rare tanks more

While I've got the original FM Commissar, Gaunts Ghosts, preatorians (and casualties), FW tank crew, even all of the RT female "army" figures?
And despite my motorpool including both the Armorcast Baneblade/Shadowsword conversion kit (tank can swap out central hull piece to make either) & the Armorcast "super detail" Baneblade (more detail + individual metal links)?

The thing that always attracts the most attention is....
My squadron of original RT era Sentinels with thier tiny egg shaped bodies.

Probably the Gaunt and Corbec limited Black Library Diorama. I think there's like 500 in the entire world.

Or the Mordian unreleased Plasma Gunner.

I own them both.

Boom! Leman Russ Commander

Rarest I have is probably the limited Cadian standard bearer, although you do see them floating around Ebay now and again for a surprisingly low price so they don't seem 'that' rare in the grand scheme.

I bought the Medusa campaign Vostroyan box back in the day with the casualties and I 'think' a unique standard bearer but I don't remember the exact contents and whether it was actually unique or not.

The rarest I can actually think of is probably the above Gaunt/Corbec which I've almost never seen in almost two decades of being involved in the hobby. I imagine in a few years the Catachan Colonel is going to be among the rarest though, but these days it wouldn't shock me if GW did another print run for an event or something once Covid is over.

A buddy of mine has 2 sets of schaffers last chancers and 2 or 3 variants of the metal female commisars as well as the aiming pose of the vindicare assassin and metal iron warriors war smith.

I seem to recall that the IG praetoria army (the one with the pith helmets) was hard to find.

I've got the metal griffin crew shown above.

I also have an OOP gas masked tank commander from forgeworld, a resin Snake Strianski from forgeworld, about one each of all the old metal tank commanders (the valhallan one with the tank riders, the catachan commander with the sandbags, etc), and an OOP up-armored griffon mortar carrier.

A lot of the metal minis I picked up 15+ years ago when GW sold bits individually.

I have the Cadian standard bearer, as well as the Vostroyan casualties, both were exclusives of boxed sets. I also have the Catachan tank commander and his sandbags from ye olde Exterminator kit, though the latter has gone onto a.. Demolisher tank at this point, actually fits quite snugly on "modern" heavy Russ turrets. I really should repaint the tank commander one of these days.

I did manage to get a Thunderbolt pilot from a friend after a lot of nagging and begging for her to finally part with it. Sorry folks, I've painted it, so it is ruined for life now.

Ah, a rarity I could never get my hands on were the Cadian troopers at attention, which were a Games Day exclusive or the like? Sold in blisters of two?

The Vostroyan platoon deal's casualties were the only unique models, the rest was all stock troops. No standard bearer for the command squad though: medic, vox caster and two special weapons instead.

Rarity and things you have seen is so fuzzy.

I’ve got a small collection of RT-era guard. Rare? Maybe not, but old enough that there is a good chance something in there counts.

Seen? I’ve seen things you wouldn’t believe. Attack ships on fire, c-beams glittering. You know the drill. But mostly at the time it was normal. In print stuff. But put a couple decades++ on that, it’s something special. But also, fuzzy in the brain. Did I see it across the table, or on the rack at the FLGS, or in the SoL catalog?

A fellow Dakkanaut gave me his blister when I bought something else off him. They're very nice.

Don’t know about rarity, but I have a squad of the original “Necromunda Spyders” rough riders, though in very bad shape. I haven’t been able to find any replacement parts or additional figures on e-bay or the like to fix/expand them.

It never ends well

Eye of Terror exclusive! They were meant not just to be sold, but for volunteers who helped run events at local independents or as prizes

I feel kinda bad now, I had gotten a whole bunch of them during that event.

I thought I saw some on eBay about two years ago, and was confused as to why they got such high prices. Had I known they were unreleased, I would have gotten one!

Ooh, even rarer would be the (crappy) metal heads GW released alongside these as upgrades for your Guard plastics. I think nobody bought those.

I'm enjoying this thread. As a collector I like to see and hear about rare pieces. There's even a couple in here that it's my first time hearing about them. I'm also surprised by just how many I actually have.

For me, a rare piece I've been trying to get my hands on for a while now is Ripply, the RT era female carrying an Autocannon. I see her around on ebay a lot, but they always want a lot for her.
https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/k8IAAOSwFohe5BSI/s-l300.jpg

As a fairly broke college student I can't really afford $40+ for a single model right now, so I just have to wait for more money or a steal price.

By the way, are all Mordian Plasma gunners rare or is it just that one? I have four and never thought anything of them beyond the rarity of Mordians in general, except when I tried to look up Mordian Plasma gunner just now, the only two images of them that came up were two like the one pictured in this thread.

I've seen that one on ebay a couple times in the last year, but $70+ for a single Infantry size model is too much for my wallet right now so I mostly ignored them. I think the most I've ever spent on a single Infantry size model was $25+shipping, and that was because only 200 of it existed so I felt it was worth it to me as a collectors item.

Do you mean the metal Kasrkin-ish heads? Those were never actually for sale, as far as I've been able to find.
