once the horus heresy series is over, what event or period would you like them to explore next?

Honestly? Just the present day.

The Heresy series was pretty decent at first, but it seriously went off the rails and waffled.

Now, that’s not for me and those who enjoy it are right to do so.

But, I want the remaining mysteries to remain mysteries. Narratively, it’s more satisfying to have conflicting hints than a series of novels, because it lets us fill it in, and hook campaigns onto it.

Sure, we can and will do that with Heresy. But, there’s always the risk of some Gate Keeper harshing the mellow.

GW is likely to keep on with their current course with Dawn of Fire, Watchers of the Throne, etc. The Era Indomitus is a long time to cover and they can go to a lot of perspectives. All I ask is a happy ending for the Gaunt's Ghosts series, pls no more kill Dan Abnett.

An eldar series, a tau series, an ork series and a genestealer cult series.

Tired of nothing but human and marine perspectives. There are more people in the universe than just the imperium

I would like a Tau series about the era when they first ventured into Space and met the various alien species for the first time. It could be interesting to see the 40k universe described from the in-universe perspective of someone who is still exploring it.

I would love to see such a series, particularly from the POV of a lowly worker with a typical crappy life joining the cult and rising to a 'hero'.
Really play up the Imperium as the bad guys; there could be so much fun had portraying the cult as a benevolent force, whilst dropping little nuggets of their true motivations.

Perhaps the age of apostasy? A decently long and undefined period within the 40k universe with lots opposing factions. A good opportunity for a few narratives.

Ask yourself: have you rated a gallery image today?

SOMETHING that isn't just the Imperial or Chaos perspective. I don't have much of a preference but something Xenos. Loved the Infinite and the Divine, wish we could got more Xenos stories of that caliber.

Or, alternatively, it could be the Cult of the Rusted Claw, where the inducted cult members understand exactly what they're doing, and they understand that a few generations of living free from the tyranny of the imperium is worth the destruction of humanity, and if the Imperium is the only way to save humanity, then it isn't worth saving.

Furthermore I will spend 8 Cabal Points to invoke Cabbalistic Focus, causing the rubrics to appear behind your custodes! the Badab (?) war could be a good story series as would the rise of Vandire

The Age of Myth in Age of Sigmar - love to see some of the direct interactions between "people" like Morathi, Neferata, Arkhan, Teclis etc....

Unification Wars for me. I mean Earth's the only planet I genuinely care about.

Or maybe Warhammer 50k? Just jump into it, no explanations and see where it goes? We had a fun thread on what it could be like once upon a time.

Yeah I would love to see the unification wars, Thunder Warriors, their downfall, the rise of the legions and the subjugation of the solar system etc.

I'd like to know more about what the Legions have been up to since the opening of the Great Rift. The 8th edition CSM codex mentions that the Night Lords are reforming some of the Legion and building empires in realspace. I want to see something about that, preferably written by ADB. It could include some Xenos too. The Eighth Legion needs something to kill, after all.

If there was the motivation to do xenos tales, more tales around the time before the Fall and its aftermath could told. It could be like the Fall of Atlantis or like Tolkien's downfall of Numenor. There can be the portrayal of the power of the ancient Eldar empire, its slide into decadence and the futile efforts to reverse or halt the slide. Then there can be the portrayal of the different philosophies of survival, from the Exodites to the Craftworlders and the Dark Eldar. If they wanted to make it more personal, it could be told from the perspective of a single noble family splintering into different factions or siblings going different ways.

In the aftermath of the Fall, there can be exploration of the formation of the Path system and the Aspects and how over time they seem to have settled into their current forms, Karandras's Scorpion replace Arhra's Scorpion idea for example.

And for the latest, one could show more about the Ynnari faction and how they relate to other sub-factions within the Eldar as a whole.

The Horus Heresy is Milton's War in Heaven. The Fall of the Eldar is the fall of Atlantis or Numenor.

Also, unification wars/ pre unification wars.

Also, eldar exodous right on the brink of the fall.

I'd love them to keep going on the Phoenix Lord series. More xenos-centric stories in general. A continuation of the Ynnari stories. The modern (40k) setting is big enough to explore all sorts of interesting things. Give named characters a little more story, and poke around at some of the plot hooks that have been thrown out over time.

ATTENTION
. Psychic tests are unfluffy. Your longing for AV is understandable but misguided. Your chapter doesn't need a separate codex. Doctrines should go away. Being a "troop" means nothing. This has been a cranky service announcement. You may now resume your regularly scheduled arguing.

Ok, first let me prepare.

(puts on heavily reinforced adamantium terminator armor with shield, forcefield and heavy ceramite plating.)

(climbs into adamatium armored land raider with heavy ceramite layering.)

(Drives land raider into Adamantium armored landing craft with heavy ceramite heat shielding)

(Flies landing craft into adamantium armored battlebarge with ceramite heat shielding and heavily upgraded void shields.)

Ok now that i may have a chance to survive the firestorm this is going to (unfairly) draw it might be cool go "And not for something completely different" and set a series in the days before the whole chaos breakout and during the last times of the DAoT when people had governments, computers, technology, science, democracy, entertainment, etc.

People more like us in the west today, not ignorant fanatic dark age dwellers, when the advancement of psychic powers was A God Thing and people were educated.

A set of novels dealing with the first instances of chaos gods creeping into this golden age of science, technology, education, civilization, etc.

maybe some early psykers talking about weird dreams of hallucinations, of unexplained urges to violence, or despair, or just changing things around to see what happened. Seeking counselling or medications to deal with the sudden desires to kill people in bloody ways, or to just let things fall apart because why bother?

And of course there's this mysterious shadowy figure moving about, doing some seemingly minor things here, saying an off bit of advice there, possibly murdering a reasonable, sane, rational man now and then, etc. Guess who?

So the novels could describe the glories and wonders of the age of technology, the slow decay, the horror of people seeing their fine reasoned worlds falling apart, trying every sane intelligent response only to see them all dashed, the despair, the rage setting in. Maybe the ultimate tragic horror of a loving mother seeing her son slowly possessed by a murderous bloody rage driving him to kill for the same of killing and she can't stop it.

Oh, and something about an alien race of hulking green bestial humanoids who seem reluctant to respond to reason...

That could just be a fresh storyline to add to the 40k background so i propose it.

Ok guys, fire up the plasma annihilators batteries and give me your best shots...

Would absolutely love to see a limited Badab War series.

5-6 books or so to cover the events of the war would be fantastic.

I'd like more grounded novels such as Titanicus or Double Eagle. Both are excellent books and include more grounded characters and conflicts (moreso in Double Eagle) as well as stuff never mentioned in other novels or the tabletop, such as new aircraft in the case of DE.

I worry that the next few Siege of Terra books will be Xeno's Arrow, each one covering half as much time as the one before so that by the end we'll get a 300 pages book describing a single sword stroke of the Emperor vs Horus.

And we'll still buy it.

Come to think of it, that was pretty much the last few books of Battle Royale and Alita Last Order...

Me too.

If you get someone who can write in two or more distinct styles it could really work. The first half of the book as a very stark, unemotional Asimov/Clarke type thing, but as Chaos awakens and technology starts to go awry can transition into a bombastic Lovecraftian 10 adjectives for every noun style.

PS-why the @#$% is awry pronounced a-rai? What is that W even doing in there? Is it just there to make sure the word that means #$%^ed up is itself a bit @#$%ed up?

The two Dawn of Fire novels, especially the most recent ones, tell about what some of the Legions have been doing, as well as the novel Apocalypse.

My only concern would be the risk of filling in a piece of history that's better off unwritten. The DAoT and the Age of Strife always hadthis air of forgotten history and it might loose some of it's impact once described. Then again, the HH was like that before the books and people love the HH stuff now.
