I'm experimenting with making minis of a sort of "cosmic horror" space blob thingy. Like a miniature Shoggoth, or an avatar of Yog-Sothoth, or something out of the "shimmer" in Annihilation. The impression I'd like to evoke is that of a shifting, shapeless mass of immaterial globules.

That's easy, right?

On the right is the first prototype I've slapped together. Just a mass of plastic balls and hot-glue goop, hit with a rough coat of rattlecan primer. On the left--for reference--is a test piece with some iridescent paint. I like the effect, but I'm not sure how to incorporate the tendril-like elements into a scheme with that paint. I'm also open to suggestions for completely different colors. Generally, I'd like the piece to be mainly dark colored, with some sort of iridescent or glowy effect to the orbs.

Have a look at Black 2.0, it's an acrylic paint that (allegedly) is the world's blackest paint available to the public. I've had mixed results with it but starting to like the effect more and more.

It might be worth checking out some shapes like the Klein bottle in terms of what some higher dimensional shapes look like mapped to three dimensions.

I'm also quite interested in this. I've been meaning to sculpt some C'Tans in this direction, if I ever get a good idea.

One thing I'm planing to do with my Void Dragon is to paint it in a starfield/galaxy pattern. We'll see how that goes.
