Yep, you read that right.

This thread is about how i have purchased more hobby related stuff this year than the last 3, thanks to our governments response to global shenanigans.

Last year, I answered a survey from the UK government regarding employment status (simply because being stuck at home I had very little else to do, what with being a 1 person flat and all. I thought nothing else of it.

Then, in September, I received an email stating that as you have proven willing to participate in surveys, we would like to invite you to take part in a national covid survey. This will involve 1 covid test (delivered to your doorstep) each week for 2 months, then 1 a month for the duration of the survey (min 12 months) You shall recieve a £50 voucher for your shop of choice for your 1st test, and a £25 voucher for each test thereafter.

Needless to say, I signed up immediately.

I am now 5 months or so (as it took a while to get started) into the survey, and in exchange for occasionally sticking a swab down my throat and up my nose i managed (via amazon vouchers) to purchase:

Indomitus (first 3 vouchers, a bit of my own money for delivery and an excellent discount)

A box of Tyranid Hive Guard,

Codex Supplement: Dark Angels

and today, a box of Atalan jackals (discounted because of slight damage to packaging).

My questions to dakkanauts in the UK are:

Anyone else done this? any problems? (none at all for me so far)

if you did, what hobby related stuff did you buy?

I should mention that every single test i have had has come back negative

Have had a couple of tests, all negative.

Besides this year's census, haven't had any surveys, but have spent around £50 on upgrades for a kit I'm working on in the blog in my sig.

Different Covid-based hobby situation, but similar results.

My job transitioned fairly seamlessly to a work-from-home model. No unemployment, no furlough, I’ve kept the same paycheck this whole time. They even gave us a little extra stipend to cover our internet.

But the government also handed out stimulus checks to everyone, myself included. I decided to use this as guilt-free money and start the Tyranid army I had always dreamed about, but could never justify. And help keep my FLGSs afloat throughout the crisis.

Free money, plus free time, equals chittering alien horde.

I'm apparently a key worker so I've been working this whole time, which frankly sucks a big old pile of nuts. I'd love some of that sweet-sweet furlough or even just a few weeks working from home. Sadly no such luck.
