For those of you who use oil or enamel paints on your models would airbrush thinner be an acceptable alternative to mineral spirits? If not is there an acceptable alternative to mineral spirits that isn't that expensive?

Fifteen quid for a litre compares pretty damn favourably to airbrush thinner. How much is oil paint thinner in the US?

Isn’t airbrush thinner, for acrylic paints, basically a mix of water and acrylic flow improver.

So I would have thought oil paints and enamel paints would need a different formula?????

Ok, I was not aware of that, thanks for the advice.

As said above, airbrush thinner is just for acrylic paints like Vallejo or Citadel, and it's usually acetone based. Basically nail polish remover and won't do anything to enamels or oils.

Odorless thinner is the best you can go for really. Sansodor is the same thing, but you'll find it in any art supply shop and it's typically a lot cheaper than Miniature branded Odorless thinner.

You can use white spirits too, but that will stink the place up so make sure you have good ventilation. Which you should have if you're airbrushing enamels because they are not one of your five a day.
