I saw this great tutorial on YouTube for painting marble-like effect on bases:

I’m working on duplicating the effect but I’m stuck on the baby wipe step. The creator is located in the UK and uses Tesco brand baby wipes. Once they dry he stretched them out and uses them to create the Marble veins. I’ve included a screenshot from the video of one stretched out and taped in place.

I’ve purchased a couple of brands in the US and have not yet found one that stretches like this. Does anyone know of a product available in the US that stretches like this?

How about the spider web stuff used for Halloween decorations? Not too useful here in April, but it might be similar.

Have you tried just cotton or stuffing? I've seen a similar tech used with just cotton.

Thanks for the great suggestions!

I realized that my airbrush cleaning wipes are the same consistency as the baby wipes used in the video. So I’ve had a go with an already used airbrush wipe. They’re a bit expensive to use by I have a few dried out ones that I can try in order to get the technique right (or at least not terrible).

I’m definitely also going to try the spider web stuff! I have some in the attic from last Halloween so that will be a perfect test.

Thanks again! Once I get some tests done I’ll post the pics here.

Here's my first attempt at the marble effect. These shots are after the airbrushing but before I have tried applying an enamel wash. Pretty happy so far with my first try.

Looks good. The way the wipe fabric has town you could paint it like moss

Of the things I own:

-purell wipes
-cat butt wipes
-used drier sheets

They all stretch/tear in similar fashion.

Sounds like that texture/material is more common than I thought. Maybe I just got unlucky with my first couple of purchases.

I did not realize that cat butt wipes were a thing. My cats are probably judging me for that.

Lol. We have a chonk that used to have issues cleaning herself (she was naturally too round when she was younger) that we bought the wipes for. And sometimes when one of them freaks out at their dingleberry we need to extract for them.

As someone who has never really had pets, that is definitely a check in the Con column for the kids’ requests for a dog or a cat

Another thought is to use some of the stuffing that’s in a synthetic pillow or cushion.

For the marble effect, not your cat’s arse.

Looks like you have it figured out, but I use cheap store brand wipes after hearing that cheap ones tend to work better.

I'm told that dryer anti-static sheets are the way to go for this effect (presumably the unscented ones, but maybe you want your models Morning Breeze fresh?)

It needs to be used sheet. The waxy component of unused sheet prevents you from getting a nice texture out. Or maybe you can play with it until it feels like a used sheet?
