Not a fan of MOBAs for a start, so the game had me on the fence, but this really isn't EU or UK friendly when you're met with a 20% VAT charge. Whatever about the UK with Brexit, I always thought EU friendly meant that the company takes on that VAT charge. I could be wrong of course, but it's already a high cost product and that makes the cost prohibitive for even the PVC pledge, which to be honest, no one should be paying that high for the potential swing and miss with that material.

The miniatures are quite cool though, which is a shame.

When I saw "Eternal Champions" in the title I hoped it might be based on the old videogame. Alas.

Wow, yeah, that's not EU-friendly shipping and including the logo is misleading if not outright lying. The shipping logos are used when you ship from inside this zone, so there are no additional import charges and taxes are included in the price.

Edit: Hold on, they say they have an EU warehouse. But still don't ship from there or...?

EU friendly shipping means the goods are sent from within the EU and so you don't have to deal with customs. It never meant you're exempt from legal taxes.

VAT laws are now being more strongly enforced in the UK (from start of this year) and EU (from the summer) so firms now need to prove they have paid VAT when importing the products to local warehouse (the typical way they got around this in the past was to declare a fake value for the product or the production cost so it had no or a tiny amount of VAT applied but this wont work anymore). A lot of Kickstarter companies are now passing that charge onto the customer instead (CMON for example). These companies still claim they are EU / UK friendly as the Friendly guarantee only covers Import Tax and not VAT (lots of us don't agree with that but they are holding firm). If you check the current CMON X-Men Kickstarter they discuss the VAT charges in the FAQ.

But aren't they paying taxes for the whole sum when they collect the KS money or am I missing something here?

Kickstarter does not charge you German VAT on top of your pledge by default if that's what you're asking.

Yep. My understanding too is there was a loop hole companies were using to get around customers having to pay the VAT. CMON, Gamelyn Games (Tiny Epic series), this company and others are all going to start having customers pay the VAT as the new changes in the law go into effect on July 1. It's a pain, and you'd think in this global economy, the countries would encourage customer friendly taxation.

Edit- Wording from CMON and Gamelyn-

CMON:

"Note that, in compliance to the EU and UK laws, VAT will also be charged on the pledge manager system for EU and UK backers. At this time we cannot estimate the cost as the charges vary from country to country and it is based on the price of the order plus the actual shipping costs (which can only be properly determined in the system). However, rest assured that the full VAT to be charged on each pledge will be clearly displayed in the pledge manager system before final confirmation. European countries that are not part of the European Union or UK will not be charged VAT."

Gamelyn:

"In compliance to the EU and UK laws, VAT will be collected in CrowdOx for EU and UK backers. VAT is not included in the shipping cost and will be a separate line item in CrowdOx. Some regions do require that taxes are remitted based on both the product cost and shipping cost, so keep that in mind as you plan for these costs."

Edit-
Privateer

"NOTE FOR BACKERS IN THE UK AND EU: As you know, recent changes in the UK and EU are having a dramatic effect on the customs protocols and taxation for imported goods. We are doing our best to stay abreast of all changes while striving to keep shipping costs as low as possible. Pricing below represents our best estimates with the information that is currently available, but this information is changing and being updated frequently by the many governments and institutions involved in regulating the import of goods. All information is subject to change."

Intriguing. I was very interested in the ver.1 of the game, cosnidering the rave review from content creators for my favourite wargame of all time (we must have similar expectations when it comes to games):

but the price barrier was insurmontable.

Shame about the VAT, this really does make a difference to the price for us poor suckers in the UK (or in the EU). Still, I suppose the boot is on the other foot as compared to GW/Northstar etc. where we dip in.

But a bummer, as I wanted to get into this one, and it was already a quite lofty price

Super excited for this one. I've played the original version of the game several times at cons since it debuted and always walked away impressed. It's got a great win condition that always feels like it comes down to these do or die Warmachine style assassination runs and has a lot of that same modernized feel that makes Guild Ball so good without being quite as narrow in scope. It ticks a lot of boxes for me and whenever I'd see someone with it I'd try to get in a game.

I've come very close to buying it for years now, but the price of entry was just way too steep, even having seen the quality of the 54mm sculplts. I'd heard about this kickstarter but kind of written it off as I assumed that hadn't changed. Seeing that they've shrunk the game down to a point where the models are pretty reasonable for the number of figures the game requires is fantastic. I could get everything for about what I expected I'd have to pay for enough to be able to play a pretty small sample of what it had to offer before. Definitely jumping in this time.

Does anyone know how much of the extra cost I should expect from taxes in EU zone 1 ?

I also wonder if stats for models not available in the Hero pledge will be available somewhere. Ver.1 had them for free online. I'd happily use alternative models/conversions to broaden the choice of characters to play with if the game proves to be fun, but don't want to overpledge when I don't know that.

at the very least you should expect VAT at whatever the polish level is (23%?)

plus possibly some sort of collection fee from the courier/postal service

All the 2.0 stats and rules for all the models (including the 1.0 stuff that isn't part of this Kickstarter) are on their app Warband Commander. This includes stuff like which characters are Chosen for which gods and such. It's definitely not final and appears to be a bit of a beta testing, but everything is definitely there.
