Heya all, been out of the game for a while and recently unearthed my old daemons.

I have a random collection of mish mash stuff that requires repair. I'm wondering firstly, are any of these units any good and secondly, what would be the next addition to the force?

Sorry I'm pretty vague on what any of it is so using best guess.

Angrath (gigantic bloodthirster lord of war)
1x Large Chaos Spawn
1x Spined Chaos Spawn
45ish Bloodletters
29ish Flesh Hounds
8 blood crusher
1 Skull Catapult
1 Daemon Prince with Wings
1 Daemon Prince on Foot
1 Skulltaker
1 Karanak
2 Chaos Spawns

15ish Daemonettes
9 Slaneesh Cavalry Riders

Are daemons of chaos and chaos marines still able to be taken together? Because generally chaos marines are pretty cheap to buy second hand so would be keen to add some of those.

I also have a hundred or so old beastmen from Warhammer Fantasy, including some champions, priesty guys and minotaurs. Wondering if they can be suitable as cultists and various monsters with some... upgrades.

Edit: Forgot to mention that I'd be playing in a strictly non-competitive setting. But even so, I know the game has a history of running some seriously garbage units so want to make sure I focus my efforts on stuff thats at least decent.

Edit: Updated with another box of stuff I found

Though I'm not a Chaos Daemons player myself, I believe all of these idea's are fine as a fun, non-competitive army. Though you may lose out on some competitive army buffs by taking detachments of Chaos Marines with Chaos Daemons, there are no rules saying you can't since they are both of the Chaos faction. Old beastmen should be fine as Cultists as there are already examples of this both in lore and in models (Tzaangors). I'm not sure what the special Beastmen might be other than cool looking normal Cultists, but you can probably find something for some of them. If you want to use the Beastmen as Cultists beyond friendly casual games, you'll need to find some autoguns and/or autopistols to slap on them.

The only glaring issue I see is that Skull Catapults do not exist in 40k, however in a casual game you might be able to proxy it as a Skull Cannon.

Edit: Just so you know, Cultists are considered pretty bad right now in 9th, and Chaos as a whole is getting shafted pretty hard by being excluded from the Marine updates. Hopefully this will change quickly with a digital index drop soon, but expect to see Chaos suffering wholesale for another year or so until GW get's around to releasing the 9th ed Chaos codices.

Whoops, it is indeed a cannon just misspoke there.

So are marines and demons different armies now? I haven't played since sixth and the detachment stuff does my head in. Doesn't help that I haven't got a rulebook yet. I mostly just want to run Angrath because he is metal as hell and has such a sweet model.

Versteckt in den Schatten deines Geistes.

Marines and Chaos have sadly been separate entities since the book that came after the 4th Edition 'Chaos' Codex.

I mean even in that abomination of a book all the Daemons were replaced with 'Generic' versions of GDs and regular Daemons, so I guess you could say that Daemons, as we know them, haven't been part of Chaos Marine armies since 4th Ed.

Sad, really.

Just take a Daemons detachment and a CSM detachment and you're good to go. Your Daemon Princes can lead either of them. You should probably get an HQ for these daemonettes.

Why Aye Ya Canny Dakkanaughts!

Here's an army based off of what you've got right now (proxying Skulltaker as a regular Herald though):

++ Supreme Command Detachment 0CP (Chaos - Daemons) ++

+ Configuration +

Chaos Allegiance: Khorne

Detachment Command Cost

+ Lord of War +

An'ggrath the Unbound: Warlord, Oblivious to Pain

++ Battalion Detachment 0CP (Chaos - Daemons) ++

+ Configuration +

Battle Size: 3. Strike Force (101-200 Total PL / 1001-2000 Points)

Chaos Allegiance: Khorne

Detachment Command Cost

+ HQ +

Bloodmaster

Daemon Prince of Chaos: Daemonic axe, Khorne, Skullreaver

Karanak

+ Troops +

Bloodletters: Banner of Blood, Bloodreaper, Daemonic Icon, Instrument of Chaos
. 24x Bloodletter: 24x Hellblade

Bloodletters: Bloodreaper
. 9x Bloodletter: 9x Hellblade

Bloodletters: Bloodreaper
. 9x Bloodletter: 9x Hellblade

+ Elites +

Bloodcrushers: Bloodhunter, Instrument of Chaos
. 7x Bloodcrusher: 7x Hellblade, 7x Juggernaut's Bladed horn

+ Fast Attack +

Flesh Hounds
. 8x Flesh Hound: 8x Gore-drenched fangs

Flesh Hounds
. 8x Flesh Hound: 8x Gore-drenched fangs

Flesh Hounds
. 8x Flesh Hound: 8x Gore-drenched fangs

++ Total: [112 PL, 11CP, 1,992pts] ++

This is a very zoomy army and you can pay the CP to throw the big Bloodletter Squad + maybe the DP, the Herald and even An'ggrath all in deepstrike. Is it competitive? Nah. Fun? Yes.

If you wanna expand into CSM, a World Eaters Berzerker battalion is where I'd go looking.
