Wow, I haven't posted here in a good long while. I'm still working on the same project, though, and I wonder if I might get some advice? The project I'm working on is my custom Rogue Trader character; Aedan Qel-Drake. Some day, it could be neat to finally finish his miniature, on a Dreadnought base of loot, with some of his retinue standing, and being removable from the middle, if he were ever to see table top use (that's impossible, but to dream...). As of right now, for modeling purposes, here's how he's comprised:
* Base model is a Tempestus Scion Prime, for the fancy carapace armor and the coat. His base suit is black with green carapace plates, trimmed in gold.
* The coat is covered in Green Stuff bumps, to give it a look more akin to Dragon/Salamander hide; he is allied with the Salamander Space Marines.
* His weapons are a red-tinted inferno pistol from the old Battle Sister Canoness and an Eldar Power Sword from a Howling Banshee.
* I'm planning to use a custom head to give him a hatless, young man look, as Qel-Drake is in his early 30s. Possibly Valeros of Pathfinder.
What I'm wondering is how might I spice him up a little? He might not be as over the top as some of the Rogue Traders we've seen modeled; he's not wearing a hat that covers his face, or stripey pantaloons, with a mustache that has its own stats, and a coat with a collar to force Creed out of his stasis vault to outflank a tank from behind it, but even the somewhat more subdued art of Rogue Traders from the FFG line of books, which is where Aedan is from/meant to be used, are still more than just wearing a uniform. His coat will look special, and his gun will be pretty unique if I can get it to look more like red metal, and less red-painted metal, but he still might not draw the eye like someone claiming a Warrant of Trade should? Anyone know something else that might add a little pop? Someday, if my skill ever permits, his base, retinue, and such might do it, but first he'll just be a single mini, and need to work that way. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks!
Vaguely related, but as someone who usually takes to the field from an orbiting cruiser, and who doesn't ALWAYS want to risk the wrath of RNGesus using the teleportarium, are there any vehicles in the tabletop that represent what he might fly down from orbit in? I like Valkyries, but I've never felt definitively certain about their ability to pass through atmo, and into space. it could be neat to have whatever that vehicle is sitting on a landing pad, kitted out with his heraldry, but I have NO idea which thing it would be, and if GW make it, since space has so little to do with this side of their game, and Battlefleet Gothic got canned ages ago.
