Hello 40k tacticians. I must borrows those minds inclined towards the economics of points efficiency.

I'm busy cobbling together a bonebreaka battlewagon and I have no idea what to do in terms of guns. Is worth giving this thing a main weapon and if so, which one? Should I just just strap on a bunch of big shootas? Should I give it any guns at all?

It will be part of a Bad Moons army, somewhere around 1500-2000 points. I'll probably run it alongside some gunwagons, lootas and a kannonwagon.

Ask yourself: have you rated a gallery image today?

A bonebreaka's extra points cost and ability is basically made for them to get stuck in fast and hard as quickly as possible. Now that you no longer have to worry about stuff like in 7th ed where a weapon was mandatory to avoid being immobilized on the damage chart, ranged weapons for a bonebreaka is pretty much pointless, since you are either advancing them or charging, sometimes both if a Warboss on Warbike or Wartrike is within range of them. Big shootas as is are a waste of points if you can choose not to have them, I wouldn't bother. I would however either suggest the Forktress or Red Rolla kustom job upgrade, since the former will make it much more likely to get into enemy lines and survive without having to rely on outside support like the KFF, and the latter can give you much needed consistency for how many attacks you get on the charge.

I’ll put in a second vote for no weapons at all, even in a Bad Moonz army. Leave the shooting to units better designed for it and keep the Bonebreaka plain except for the Forktress Kustom Job.

Since there is a realistic chance that big shootas become free upgrades in the next codex (following the example of the fw kannonwagon), i would probably magnetize some of them or at least leave a space where you can fit them later...
at the moment, as the above posters said, don't bother with shooting...
