Have I been reading it wrong?

2 familiars means you can cast one more power two times. But re-reading it now it does not seem like that. Only 1 time even with 2 familiars?

"Familiars: If a Patriarch is accompanied by any Familiars, then once per game, at the end of its controlling player’s psychic phase, its Familiars can lend it additional power. If they do so, the Patriarch can immediately attempt to manifest one additional psychic power.

When rolling to wound this unit, always use the Patriarch’s Toughness while it is on the battlefield. The death of a Familiar is ignored for the purposes of Morale tests. Familiars are considered to have the CHARACTER keyword for the purposes of shooting attacks."

Its only one additional psychic power.

Yeah. It may be a mistake but the way they have written it the second familiar is only useful as an extra wound.

Unrelated follow up question. I can not use the Primus abilaty on a unit that is in transports, right? (Naming them.)

Correct, you can't target a unit that is in a transport with an ability unless you are given explicit permission.

A unit in a transport is not 'on the battlefield' according to the rules.
