I just bought contrast paint, and I haven't used it before. Does anyone have any experience with mixing paints? I was thinking about mixing apothecary white with a light blue color, but I don't know enough about contrast paint to know what the outcome would be.

I also wanted to mix blood angel red with a darker red, like flesh tearer red.

Contrast is fine for mixing with contrast paint, contrast medium & shades.

Don't mix in "regular" paints, the difference in consistency will act weird on the mini.

You can mix contrast paints, just be aware that the pigmentation of some of them are stronger than others so mixing something 50/50 won't give you a proper mix of the two shades.

If your model surface is smooth, I recommend mixing the contrast paint with a drop of contrast medium - NOT the regular medium - so it is less likely to pool and create tiny bubbles that leave white spots when they dry. This gives a smoother finish to smooth surfaces like SM armor.

I actually use a mix of contrast aethermatic blue and terradon turquoise for my Alpha Legion and the two contrast paints mix fine.

I've also added a little glaze medium and that didn't seem to have any negative effects.

As said I wouldn't add regular paints to the mix.

I prefer to buy from miniature manufacturers that *don't* support the overthrow of democracy.

Contrast paints can be mixed with each other but I am not sure if mixing Apothecary white with blue has the effect you are looking for. If you want lighter blue, you can simply thin one of the Contrast blues with Contrast medium.

That place is the harsh dark future far left with only war left.

But weren't some of the contrast paints dyes? I might be overthinking this but I'd imagine the dye based contrasts wouldn't mix predictably with the non-dye ones.. ??

Easy enough to try though, just use a test mini before committing on a mix

Also consider that contrast paints are translucent, and take on a lot of the colour painted underneath them. You may get the effect you're after by simply changing the base coat, rather than by mixing the contrast paint.
