Sorry if asked before I didn't really know how to search for it,
To quote chapter approved

"In Grand Tournament 2020 missions, Strategic Reserve and Reinforcement units can never arrive on the battlefield in the first battle round. Any Strategic Reserve or Reinforcement unit that has not arrived on the battlefield by the end of the third battle round counts as having been destroyed, as do any units embarked within them (this does not apply to units that are placed into Strategic Reserves after the first battle round has started)."

It specifically mentions strategic reserves and not reinforcements, is this meaning all forms of deepstrike?

Follow up question depending on answer, if they are required to come back turn by turn 3 what would happen if you placed that unit from on board, say skystalkers using soar away after turn 3?

Soar away

"Soar Away: At the beginning of your Movement phase, this unit can boost into the skies. Remove this unit from the battlefield. It can return to the battlefield
as described in the Thermal Riders ability. This unit cannot both soar away and descend in the same turn. If the battle ends while this unit is in the skies, this unit is considered to be destroyed."

thermal riders
"Thermal Riders: During deployment, you can set up this unit in the skies instead of setting it up on the battlefield. If you do, or the unit has boosted into the skies using the Soar Away ability, at the end of one
of your Movement phases you can set up this unit anywhere on the battlefield that is more than 9" away from any enemy models."

The turn 3 limit doesnt apply to units which are placed into strategic reserves after the first battle round has started.

10. DECLARE RESERVES AND TRANSPORTS

In Eternal War missions, Strategic Reserve and Reinforcement units can never arrive on the battlefield in the first battle round. Any Strategic Reserve or Reinforcement unit that has not arrived on the battlefield by the end of the third battle round counts as having been destroyed, as do any units embarked within them (this does not apply to units that are placed into Strategic Reserves after the first battle round has started).

The question I have is do "at the start of the first battle round" abilities count as "after the first battle round has started".

11,100 pts, 7,000 pts

Yes, the start of the battle round is of course the point at which the battle round has started. Stating otherwise has no support in the language used.

A corollary question:

If I have an aircraft fly off the board after the start of the battle, MUST it return the very next battle round or can it wait longer?

It can wait longer.
