I’m thinking of coming back to 40k after quitting 5 years ago and selling my pewter sister’s of battle, and my dark eldar army.

I’m thinking of getting back into it as I have 2 friends that still play (necrons and daemons) and I see my sisters have been getting a lot of love since I left.

One thing I’ve never been able to figure out is how to deal with is a Blood Crusher Deathstar... I’ve be tabled many times by this unit and still have no idea what to do against it.

My opponent changes his army from time to time, but the Crusher bomb is a crutch he always falls back to. Being that I see the board has gotten smaller, I fear this unit more than ever with my new sisters. If I do return, I need an answer for this. I typically play with an all-comers list but it never cuts it when he drops the Crusher-star.

Any ideas? Specifically Sisters related, but any ideas would help... with the new charge rule they have for mortal wounds and a second charge, they seem stronger than ever.

Why is this the first I'm hearing about Crusherstars?

Crushers are 40 ppm with T 4, 4 W and a 4+ save. They have 6+ S5 attacks.

I get the appeal, but what makes this a Star? Are they getting some buff?

MEQ have a better save, you get more wounds plus shooting for the same number of points. Crushers only move 8", it's not like they can't be screened out from anything that matters.

Advice: Stand your troops at 24" and shoot them. The odds of a turn 2 charge are slim, that's several rounds of shooting.

I could have sworn he used them as toughness 5 with ap3 power weapons. Could be wrong, but they def somehow had a 4++ and this new charge rule they recently got that causes mortal wounds and allows them a second charge if they wipe a unit with a billion attacks is what has me concerned. He’s almost always had a turn two charge, and sometimes has deepstriked them as well. Maybe I’ve fallen victim to some house rules of some sort, but bolter fire has never saved me. Any other ideas... maybe something SoB might have? I guess with the 4++ all I can really do is throw as many dice as possible at them and hope he rolls 1-3? Seems like a lame option lol

The stuff about T5 and second charges may be true. The rules were updated in Wrath and Rapture, I'm reading from the Codex.

The point remains - there's a difference between a Deathstar and a bunch of tough dudes. Bloodcrushers only move 8 inches, which means you have some breathing room to fall back and shoot.

Sisters have some Stratagems that should put down the Crushers. This should not be impossible.

I think maybe you are talking about bloodletters not crushers?
Bloodcrushers are the juggernaut cavalry.

As far as I know there isn't a way to get bloodcrushers up to t5 in demons.

Having said that bloodcrusher bombs are quite nasty. The banner upgrade allows them to deep strike and roll 3d6 (yeah, we all know the bloodletter bomb banner), a pure khorne Detachment hq gives them reroll failed charges near an hq, and warp surge can put them to the 4+++ save. They can do mortal wounds on the charge quite easily with a strat and they can swing twice if needed.

However remember a few things. If they charge and kill their target they can't consolidate into a new target then pay cp to swing again, when they charge they can only swing at what they nominated as a charge target and if they don't make it into all charge targets the initial charge fails. They will burn through CP doing all these tricks very quickly as well. Also if they warp surge they can't reroll any failed saves.

My suggestion would be to work on screening your important stuff out with bare bone 5 man sister squads. Sure that big blob will kill them easily but just make sure there is enough space that the blob can't consolidate into anything else then light them up with bolter / holy flame throwers and wittle that blob down to a more reasonable number.

I run bloodcrusher bombs instead of bloodletter bombs normally myself, very effective but not the end all of tricks. The exalted bloodthirster bomb, that can make you have a really bad day lol.

Thank you for this, at least we are on the same page that we are both talking about the cavalry lol
Over the years I’ve seen him run these in groups of 9. The only thing I’ve seen stop them dead is the old Grey Knights Psychtrope grenades on a termie Lord unit. I personally have never had any luck killing enough of them with mass light bolter fire. Although I haven’t played a game since the 40k weapons changes. As far as the second charge goes, the rule “Brass Stampede” for the mortal wounds says that if they wipe a unit they can declare another charge. And those mortal wounds are definitely going to wipe my 5 man units.

Yeah if they kill the sisters, thats a thing for sure. Counter to that of course, if 1 sister lives they stopped them cold. You can also use rhinos for blocking, they make hard stops to blood crushers.

Alternatively flamer immolators will mess those guys up.
