I am thrilled to let the Dakka community know that the newest Horizon Wars game, Horizon Wars: Infinite Dark is now available to purchase in PDF or hardback print-on-demand editions.

The glorious, unstoppable expansion of humanity into the stars has ended. The benevolent guidance of the mighty Artilects saw the full range of humans — natural, synthetic and uplifted partners — mature into a species of curiosity and innovation. But now the Artilects have gone, and the stars are the playground of their ruthless inheritors.

But the framework of jump-gates that made a galactic civilisation possible is falling apart.

Take command of your own fleet of vessels, recruit heroes to take their helms, and take to the spaceways to build your own legend in the newest game in the critically-acclaimed Horizon Wars series.

Horizon Wars: Infinite Dark is the new starship combat miniatures game from Precinct Omega Publishing. Use your favourite spaceship miniatures to play games in any of three command levels, from deep space dogfighting up to capital ship encounters, in Solo, Co-op or Versus play modes.

What makes Horizon Wars: Infinite Dark stand apart from other spaceship games is three things:

First, it has solo and co-op play rules built right into the core game alongside traditional versus play. Second, it is playable in three different "scales" of combat, from fighter-on-fighter space dogfighting, through mid-range scout and exploration vessels, up to the mighty conflicts of vast battleships. And third, not only can you build and customize your vessels, but you can also choose to add pilots - customised heroes with their own strengths and weaknesses, whose evolutions, triumphs and disasters are a part of the narrative of your fleet.

Hmm, sounds like the concepts of Philip Sibbering have been revived?

Not intentionally, but I was a big fan of Phil's ideas years back, so there's a good chance they filtered into my subconscious.

I’m onboard. Might have to wait some weeks to get the book, but I’ve been looking for a “horizon wars for spaceships” for a while now.

We’re big fans of horizon wars but the infantry game didn’t grab us as much. Any reviewers with videos or write ups available yet?

Sounds good.

Loved Horizon Wars and looking forward to this one. Its also appreciated that you take the time to include solo play for down times, and I wish GW would make the same effort for their games.

Casual gaming, mostly solo-coop these days.

I had a similar question in a Facebook thread about the game. I have to confess that I'm not that organized a publisher, yet. I have been frantically sending out review copies of the game to reviewers and podcasters for the last week or two, but you know what these things are like: if you can't throw money at a project, it goes into the review "slush pile" and you have to hope that they get to it at some point. Luckily, I have good relationships with a handful of small reviewers so I'd hope to see something from them fairly soon.

But this is the first time I've managed to get the PDF and POD editions coordinated for release on the same day, so... progress?

R.

Ah, the difference between being a game publisher with an interest in miniatures, and a miniatures manufacturer with an interest in games.

Of course, my challenge now is to persuade people that Precinct Omega doesn't just write solo games and that all my games are designed to be played both solo and versus. There's been a risk, during our global isolations, that I get pigeon-holed as a solo game writer.

Glad to see it out! Good luck!

I saw some cool models on your other Social Media for this game. One of the challenges as a Indie publisher is trying to align and coordinate a good "stream" of marketing to keep new eyeballs coming to the product. If it all comes out at once.... that is not great either.

Perhaps cover it in your own podcast a bit more. The dev blog is good, but I find a lot of gamers only want audio/video now days. Makes me sad as I much prefer written bat reps and articles. However, I am old.....

Good idea. This is very much an area in which I'm still learning what works and what doesn't, what makes people complain and what makes people pay (and what makes people complain but *still* pay, which GW, of course, has mastered).

A lot of folks act as if what they want is everything, now and for free, but a behavioural analysis shows that this just isn't true and, of course, doesn't serve a company's interests.

It's tough to strike the balance. I spend three hours a week just writing blogs, reviews and articles for my Patreon and, occasionally for webzines and print magazines. There's a demand for this content, but it's hard to know to what extent this feeds back to anything resembling sales.

But I can put the same amount of time into producing a half-decent video that gets two dozen views and no comments.

Btw, I like the look of Glittering Void. Once I've got my collection of space mechs finished, I'll take it for a spin.

Between my face and my voice.... that is why I leave the video/podcasting to others. I consider it a mercy.

I still see it is doing well on the Vault. Keep it up!

Just picked this up. Being your standard hobbyist it will likely take me a while to go through this but I look forward to seeing what I can apply to my old BFG collection for starters.
