Hi all.

Was thinking about doing some goblins as my first AOS army as the look fun to paint. Just wondering, especially with the new edition, if they are due model updates. I don’t know anything about the release history of AOS

Doubtful, as the bulk of the range is new.

I think the only thing still left over from WHFB(ie "old") is the regular MPP Night Goblins and the Spider stuff.

Yeah, and the current Night Goblins and Spider Riders are perfectly serviceable as far as they are right now so I don't see them likely to change in the their new battletome for the upcoming 3rd edition. I could see a new spider hero though to replace the resin one they currently have for the giant spider boss (not the Arachnarok Spider btw).

Some Troggoth stuff too. Certainly the Fellwaters, maybe the Rockguts..?

Rockgut kit is amazing though.

Rockguts are new. The old ones were meta/resin and looked like this:

Yes, the Fellwaters are old but they're still nice models and have aged well.

Indeed, I have 6 of them in my 2k Troggoth army.

There are some bits of the construction that showing their age, the feet/legs are a little jankier than you'd expect on a newer kit. But the overall look is still very nice.

There was a rumor of an eventual battle box featuring gloomspite gitz that would include a new spider boss to replace the old finecast one. I want to say it was from the same person that correctly predicted the contents of Dominion and the introduction of the Kruleboyz (by name), which would lend it credence, but it may have just come out at around the same time.

Still, that's about all I'd expect unless they do another big wave of gitz releases. I suppose it's not impossible, if Destruction is to be the focus this go around, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

Did that rumor also say that the battlebox would have a Bullgor hero and new Bullgors as the opposing force? I'm pretty stoked for that, hope its true.

As a spiderfang player, I'd like that rumour to be true.

That rumour came first on 4chan. Wouldn't count on that one.

Also accompanied by books that are some of the oldest and most requested updates(beast of chaos, nurgle) so easy to believe(I want to believe!).

Wouldn't put much stock on THAT rumour.

Would have been nice though.

No reason to completely dismiss it though. Whatever you want to call them, we know they'll keep making 2 faction boxes. So sure, maybe they've got another Gitz box in the works....

Even less reason to disbelieve. Unless they squat a faction you can be damned sure a new version of Gitz & Beasts will be along at some point. The only question is: Sooner? Or later?

Putting in books players want makes it more of "let's give fans what they want so they believe" than what gw will do. They have their own priorities and age of books isn't one.

And yes new books will come soon. But just so happens gw will put in what players have been wishing randomly now in big bunch? Not likely. They will be spread around rather than all in bang bang bang.

4chan is very unreliable source of rumours.

The basic Nightgoblin kit as well as the Spiderriders are not exactly new, being from the start of 7th edition WHF. Around 2012? Still, those models are nice and at least the Nightgoblins blend perfectly into the newer stuff.

I'd expect GW to come with something new instead of replacing older kits - obvious exceptions being the few Finecast leftovers. Maybe another type of infantry with some new gimmick?

Having said that: new Spiderriders are high on my personal wishlist. Yes, the models are still looking nice, but they are extremely monopose and static, and have none of the "dynamic AoS style" GW has going these days. I could see them getting a remake, and would not be sad about it.

Yeah I'd agree on the spider riders. They aren't the worst models, but I'm not really keen on them either. They look ok on their own, but next to more modern kits they are a little lacklustre imo.

I never liked the spider rider kit. The spiders looked like they were squeezed onto the bases. They could use an update especially since they should be on rounder bases now.

Destruction is a big focus of 3.0 so I'd be amazed if they didn't get something new. It's an army in a very good state right now all told, but yeah they might give you a few little extras here and there. That said I'd expect it to be a one or two model kind of deal not a "here's 6 new boxed sets" kind of thing.

Suffice to say now is not the time for a big update to them; a token model or two thrown their way is great and leaves room for armies far more in need of chunky updates to get them
