How can I tell which codex is for which edition?

When I search for space wolf codex 7th or 8th edition, they both come up with the same picture.

Now only SW, but several codexes look very similar from different editions.

Successful trades since 2011 with GREY88, Theophony, midget_overlord, Stricknasty, ratmkith, Swissgeese, djones520, ArcSoll, LValx, Joravi,...

At least by their ISBN barcodes, which are listed on Wikipedia...

8th edition: 978-1788260602

7th edition: 978-1782533818

...and for all the codices on wiki...

The 8e codex books all have a silver border around the picture. 7e books do not.

You're in luck now, because you want to get Codex Supplement Space Wolves and only one of those have ever been published. Well, that and the also required Codex Space Marines.

Technically false

The Spacewolf codex was a supplement for 3rd and 4th edition when I started.

But yes that newest one is the rulebook you want to get. Unless you're specifically looking for 8th edition.

No, he is correct. Look at the title of the 9th edition space wolves book. Codex Supplement: Space Wolves
the 3/4th book you posted is not titled as a codex supplement (although it was one) it was just titled Codex: Space Wolves.

Look at the words in the lower left of the image of the 3rd edition Space Wolves codex: "Codex Space Marines Supplement"

edit: I own this book. It is not a complete codex and requires the Space Marines codex, just like the 9th edition Space Wolves book.
