sorry if this is not within the correct category to ask.
so i have an idea of using CSM as mutated children of RG from the Corvus Corax's attempt to expand the legion and sabotaged.
Corvus Corax still consider the mutated SM as his children and are locked up if i'm not mistaken.
set aside the story of the children being killed or locked up (can't remember how the story goes), is it possible to build an army of them using CSM and still be loyalist and use as custom chapter?
if that is possible, so how does it work? all the rules and codex based on Space Marine/Raven Guard but the stats based on CSM?

thank you in advance.

The game does not really have any support for doing something like this. I suppose that you could simply make a regular Space Marine army but with CSM models as proxies. That would not be allowed in most tournaments but casual players probably wouldn't care. However, you absolitely cannot combines CSM data sheets with regular Space Marine rules unless you are doing some sort of very open narrative play

When you create an army from the Space Marine codex you have to pick a first founding chapter. You can then choose customer chapter traits from the list. The 8th edition Raven Guard supplement should still be valid as well and will give you a few more options.

Using rules from one Codex and stats from another isn't allowed. However, nothing stops you using the rules from the Space Marine Codex and using CSM models (except maybe the odd overly pedantic player). As long as your models accurately represent the weapons your units carry there shouldn't be a problem.

not gonna be tournament play but mostly just for casual play and kinda cool taken from the story line.

Bilge - I would disagree that "most" tournaments would disallow it. On the contrary, most TOs I know, and tournaments I've played in, actively encourage conversions as long as the opponent is always able to understand what's going on. This is different to using proxies.

An army of CSM models using SM rules would easily fit in this, as long as they are modelled appropriately, only have weapons etc that SM can have and so on. The best (and most extreme) conversion armies ive seen have pictures of the units on the army list, with a copy for every opponent to keep next to them, so they can more quickly identify what is what. Consistency is also a help here

OP I'd say go for it, and if you want to use in a tournament, just let the TO know ahead of time and get their input.

OK, fair enough

I guess I am just paranoid, but I always imagine that one of my opponents is going to go for an easy win by getting my army disqualified. But yeah, if you get it approved before hand then you should be fine.

Dark Eldar exist because someone converted an eldar army into them for a GW tournament. GW was so into it they made a dark eldar model line and rules in the next edition.

As long as they can tell what the models are supposed to be and there is consistency it is cool.

Also rule of cool
